Question: Just a question about baby bedding,?

I am having my baby end of august in the Uk- where we all know the weather is a bit tempremental! hot sometimes, cold others. I just wondered what bedding i need for my baby in a moses basket, and later in a cot? do i need a blanket or is this dangerous? Thanks!

You need to combine sheets, blankets and clothing for the appriate weather in cold weather use flanelette sheets in the basket and cot, in warm weather use regular cotton sheets. If its inbetween type weather then just a cotton fitted sheet is fine. I 've always used the top sheet as well and tucked in appropriately. You can use a blanket when needed and that is totally fine, but you must remember to place the baby 'feet to foot '; meaning his feet at the bottom end or 'foot ' of the cot and the blanket only as high as his underarms. Tuck any excess blanket firmly under the cot mattress to avoid him getting himself wrapped up in it. Mostly babies always kick the blankets downwards and off them so sometimes its pointless having one and appropriate clothes and sleeping bags are better. in warm weather just dress him/ her accordingly - a t-shirt and shorts pj set or onesie with a light cotton top sheet in cool weather make it a cotton long sleeve & long legged onesie and a light blanket in cold weather make it a singlet/ vest, warm jumpsuit and a med blanket in really cold weather you can put him in a 'sleeping bag/ gro bag ' this will eliminate the need for bulky blanets which become a SIDS hazard this a link to some pictures of sleeping bags, they are readily available all over the place. A good sleeping bag should have a 'TOG ' rating. Baby sleeping bags are the best, my baby has one 1 tog and recently when the temperature dropped I put a tightly tucked a blanket around him as well. I take him into my bed to feed so a sleeping bag is ideal, I wear a jumper and only cover my legs when I do this. Sleeping bags have different tog ratings, so get a cool one for summer or stick with a 2.5 one. I always have him in a vest, baby grow and a 1 tog sleeping bag at the moment. We live in the UK and this keeps him warm but not too hot. In the summer I will probably go with a vest and a light sleeping bag only or just the bodysuit.
