Those sets are very expensive. And, of course, they make all of the matching accessories to try and get the parents to buy them. The only things out of that the newborn really needs are fitted sheets and maybe a mobile. Bumpers aren 't necessary, and the big quilt won 't be needed until s/ he is at least two. Also, I think everything with the same design is repetitive. Maybe start with the sheets and a couple of other things and buy cheaper things elsewhere that coordinate. (My daughter 's third birthday is just over a month away and she still uses her bigger baby blankets and not quilts. We 'll get her one when she gets her big girl bed for her third birthday. When it 's time, we will let her pick out her sheets. ) Our crib 's fitted sheets are all gifts. Most are girly, but so what. We 'll still use them for our son, who is due in November, because he won 't notice or care if they have pink flowers or blue cars on them. Some gender specific things are nice, but we 're not going to go overboard. Our son will probably paly with our daughter 's dolls and she already plays with cars, for example. Also, we let her pick her big girl underwear and trainers and some of them are the ones marketed to boys and some are the ones marketed to girls. Again, because it doesn 't matter and there is no need to spend more money (unless we think we could use more than what we have). However, if you are doing the gender thing, go with the elephants as they are probably more gender neutral than lady bugs. (I 'm very cheap and simple.) |
