Question: Does buying a baby bedding set for babies worth it?
(Posted by: on 2012-01-31 20:21:27)
I don& #039;t see the point of getting a baby bedding set since you can& #039;t use the bumpers and quillts. Does this make sense? Or should I buy fitted sheets, blankets and flat sheets separately? Thanks! |

I think its more for decor for the room than actually necessary. Its probably cheaper to buy everything separately. My son is 14 months and we still haven 't used the comforter his bedding came with. If I could do it over I 'd save my $70 (it was on sale) and just use the sheets and blankets my MIL bought. |

I dont see the harm in using the baby bumpers? I used them on all my kids. as far as the litle comforter that comes with the bedding sets, i use to lay my babies on top of it and put a lighter blanket to cover them with because i felt the comforter was too heavy duty. |

You can totally use bumpers. You can totally use quilts. I don 't know where you are getting your information, but people are CRAZY with rules these days. Some idiot probably didn 't tie the bumper on and something happened to that baby, and because of that now bumpers are unsafe. This seem totally ridiculous to me. I would think it 's much less safe to NOT use bumpers. My son had his leg stuck between the slats on the crib before and had a bumper been there (which I put on the next day) it wouldn 't have happened. The quilts are made to be stiffer than regular blankets and generally babies can 't wrap themselves up in them. When your baby grows out of the crib, the whole set will still fit a toddler bed (except the bumper) so I think it 's worth it, but also, maybe check the thrift stores first and save some $? |

The American Academy of Pediatrics say NO to bumpers, just not safe. And babies can suffocate laying on thick comforters. We used sleep sacks and swaddle blankets. Those 'sets ' have too much unsafe junk in them to be worth it. You can buy separates, and coordinate the bedding. We just used the fitted crib sheets and sleep sacks, and a warm thin blanket. usatoday.com/ money/ industries/ retail/ 2011-04-22-crib-bumper-safety.htm thestir.cafemom.com/ baby/ 127537/ aap_declares_crib_bumpers_completely pediatrics.about.com/ od/ babyproducts/ a/ 08_baby_bedding.htm babies have been found dead face down in their cribs laying on a thick comforter |

Biggest waste of money, buy a soft fitted sheet and just swaddle your baby at night. |

Bumpers are ok in the first few months of the baby 's life. my daughter is 3 months and she still has her bumpers on, but i 'm probably going to have to take them off soon cuz she 's moving around a lot. I guess, technically, in the long run, it 's probably not worth it to buy the bedding sets. All they need are swaddling blankets and a fitted sheet for the first year. |

Well my babies didnt go into their bed to sleep until about 7mos, because they were in bed with me or bassinet or pack n play in my room, but once they dod go in their bed I put the bumper on :) and I hung the comforter as decoration and once the baby is old enough to use a thicker blanket like i 'd say over a year or so when they can move around and take the bnlanket off them, stand, etc...you can use the quilt...and the dust ruffle is always great because it hangs down blocking the underneath of the crib ..which i use for storage :) |

Its just about fashion. if you dont see the sense then dont do it. Youre the parent, make an educated decision. its definitely not necessary. |

I think you are right. Baby bedding sets are expensive, and bumpers are not recommended anyway. Best to by some fitted sheets, a blanket or two and some crib sheets. And more than likely you will get a couple of blankets as a gifts. |

Just because of those reasons that you named, I bought a breathable bumper, and the pieces of the set that I wanted because you can purchase all things separate (most of the time) and I still ended up with the theme that I wanted in the room. Better yet, it turned out to be cheaper than getting the set! :) |
