Question: Is there any point to buying all that baby bedding?
(Posted by: Rachel D on 2010-07-03 17:44:30)
I& #039;ve heard that the regular crib bumpers aren& #039;t necessarily good if baby were to put it& #039;s face against it and have a hard time breathing, as well as those big and bulky crib comforters that come in sets being too much material for the baby. If this is correct, wouldn& #039;t it make more sense to just buy a breathable crib bumper and maybe a blanket the weight of a receiving blanket and some sleepers? And of course sheets as well. But how many sheets should I buy? |

I only used sheets and sleepers for my daughter for the longest time! You don 't need all that junk right away, especially since most people will tell you it 's dangerous anyways. I got bumper pads only recently for my daughter since she pokes her arms and legs through the crib bars and gets caught ALL THE TIME, but she is old enough and strong enough to turn away from the corners. I also keep a blanket underneath her now, but it is tucked in so that she doesn 't get tangled in it. |

Only thing i ever used was 2 fitted sheets , one always clean incase of an accident, and footed pj 's so i didnt have to have a blanket AT ALL. in the summer i just bought think footed pj 's and winter i got heavier ones. i think all the extra bedding is dangerous and unnecessary, just decorations. Like my baby got her foot thru the bars on her crib and cried, but she wasnt HURT just mad and scared. i think a bumper pad is supposed to help prevent them from hitting her head and feet slipping thru the bars but i think they are more dangerous than the good they might provide because of the unbreathable fabric and the strings that come loose that are supposed to hold them tight |

You are right. You don 't really need that stuff. Most people buy it to complete their nursey. I 'm guilty of it too. I find one soo cute I had to have it. Bumpers - once they roll over you are supposed to remove them - they are just decoration. So you don 't even need a breathable one ever. I would get like 2-3 sheets - in case one is dirty and need a replacement. If your baby is like mine, they will have about 20 blankies you could use for a blanket. Or even better a sleep sack. Really, if you want to save your money I would just get the crib sheet and maybe a skirt if you want one. and a baby blanket for your little one. good Luck! |

2 sheets are a minimum, but up to 7 makes sense if you do laundry once a week and want a different one everyday. The crib bedding can kill the baby, but it looks neat, so it is what is most important to you. Some people have killer fashion sense. Get it? Swaddle the baby, then use sleep sacs. Save the blanket for when they are over 12 months old. Even a receiving blanket covering their face increases SIDS. A slight reduction in oxygen intake causes what is basically a heart attack in most SIDS cases. Anything obstructing the mouth and / or nose can trigger it. Other than a paci which actually helps keep the mouth free somehow. Maybe because it keeps the mouth held open? I have nice looking crib sheets, and 2 adorable swaddled babies to decorate my crib. And a mobile... and a Fisher Price aquarium crib toy. It really is busy enough like that. Don 't need a bunch of other junk in it. I use baby blankets for supervised play time. Which isn 't sleep time anyway. So they get used, just not in the crib. |
