It 's not ideal, but it 's not the worst thing in the world. Have you tried replacing the milk with water? My son made that transition with no problem. The one issue with what you are doing is that if you brush his teeth and then give him milk, well, it sort of negates the whole teeth brushing thing. But, in general, (and I know a TON of people disagree strongly) there is, in my opinion, a lot worse things than a toddler who still likes one bottle before bedtime...

At 20 months he doesn 't need a bottle. If you keep giving it to him he will use it as a crutch and it will be harder to take away later. At bedtime let him have a little drink in his sippy cup while you read and cuddle. Then off to bed with no bottle. It might be a bit of a struggle now, but it will be so much worse when he is 2 or 3. And you won 't see the problems with his teeth until it is too late to do anything about it.

I breastfeed until 15 months so it wasn 't much of problem. Now my twenty four months get about six ounces of milk at night. We brush they twice every day. Once a week we use a flouride toothpaste. Her teeth are in perfect condition. Some people are more pron to teeth decay then others no matter what precautions the make. She has never fallen asleep with the bottle in her mouth.

When i took my son off the bottle he was about 16 months i just had to take it away completely he would use it to fall asleep and he would be out fast and i loved it but in order to get him off i told him one night he would not be getting a bottle and he pitched a fit but we made a big deal about him not drinking a bottle and he got alot better as it went
