Help please-baby carrier poll?

Question: Help please-baby carrier poll?

(Posted by: cindermom on 2010-06-13 12:17:47)

I am looking for a good baby carrier for my 1- month- old son. I bought an over- the- shoulder- baby- holder brand sling for him. It claimed to be the best sling on the market but I felt like he was going to fall out of it and I ended up having to use my hands to hold him steady which completely defeats the purpose of a baby carrier which is to be HANDS FREE. Maybe I put him in the sling incorrectly??? Now I& #039;m looking for a new baby carrier and I was wondering if you moms out there can help me decide among all of the options in baby carriers by giving me your reviews and letting me know what worked for you:) I& #039;d really appreciate the help! I& #039;m willing to spend up to $30, I& #039;ve been looking at the used carriers on Ebay...

I am now anti-carrier, lol. I thought it would be nice to have one so I could be hands free, close to my son, and some say you can nurse in them too which seemed convienent. I bought one and put my son in it and he screamed, he hated it. Hence, that sucker got returned to the store. Some kids love them, some like my son hate them. I knew a girl who bought one of those clothe wrap ones and her daughter loved it. Hope you get good advice.

I use a moby wrap but you will probably have to spend more than 30$ I hated all the other slings we 've tried because once baby starts getting bigger they put a lot of weight on your neck/ shoulders/ back. And one of the slings, every time I had to bend over, holding my son secure the safety snaps would come off!! With the moby you have many carrying options, front (facing chest), front (facing away from chest), back for older babies/ toddlers and craddle for newborns. My son is a year old and I can go out all day with out having to worry about sore muscles. The biggest problem with it is, my husband won 't use it. It 's too feminine looking apparently. It 's also nice because it 's one size fits all. My mom could not wear many of the baby slings because her breasts are just huge.

I have three different kinds of carriers and i really like all of them for different reasons. I have a woven cotten wrap type carrier like a moby style but not since it was homemade that was awesome when they were little and needed alot of support. I also have a tube sling(hotsling type thing) which i love with my toddlers when we are running around and i just want something quick to put her in to give me free hands its good for older ones with more head/ neck support. And lastly i have a Mei Tai style carrier again homemade that i like for longer outings...Its comfy and easy to tie and take and put baby into and out of and i can wear it for hours and hubbie will even wear it he says its like wearing a backpack so he likes it. If You can sew at all you make any kind you want too really for alot less than they cost in store or try to find some on a really good sale.....But those are the three i like...:) Good Luck finding something that works.

You 're not going to get anything good for $30, even on ebay. What you really want is an Ergo. I bought mine when my daughter was 2, and now at 3 we still use it for her for hiking, and I 've used it for my 4 month old as well. An Ergo will run you $80 or so on ebay, or about $110 new. But they hold their value well, so you can resell it for a decent price when you 're done with it.
