Question: What is the best baby carrier?
(Posted by: missladi on 2010-06-30 06:33:47)
My brother& #039;s wife is expecting and her shower is next week. I wanted to get her a nice baby carrier that my brother could use also. So my question to you parents is what is your favorite (or least favorite) baby carrier? Do you prefer to carry your child on your stomach or on your back like a back pack? Any other tips? I don& #039;t know if I was clear, but what I meant by carrier was a sling or back- pack type of carrier. Not the carseat- type of carrier :) |

I use a bubba-moe baby sling.. It is so comfortable and has lots of shoulder padding so your shoulders don 't hurt. I carry my one month old in it all the time and receive lots of looks and comments from it... I prefer to carry the baby close to me, and this baby sling is positioned so that it imitates the baby in a womb...With the bubba-moe baby sling it also breast feed able, meaning you can breast feed the child in there and cover up the breast. good luck |

I had a really nice Snugli (I believe that was the name) one. It was great. I used it once. Problem was, my son grew too big too fast! I was unable to strap him on and still walk by the time he was four months old. It 's a thoughtful gift, but this is an item I will not be purchasing this time around (18 weeks pregnant), at least not until I see how large my child is. Also, they do make different sizes. Kind of hard to guess before the baby is here. |

I loved the baby bjorn classic when my son was little, now that he 's 19 months I use the kelty kids backpack carrier and he loves being in that. We used the baby bjorn until he was about 8 months old and he 's a large child. rei.com/ product/ 793997?preferredSku= 7939970013 &cm_mmc= cse_froogle-_-datafeed-_-product-_-7939970013 &mr:trackingCode= 86A5A1E3-F810-DF11-BAE3-0019B9C043EB &mr:referralID= NA |

I bought both a sling and a baby Bjorn carrier when I was pregnant. I think I used the sling two times. My son was big and it just never seemed to fit either of us right. Plus he never seemed comfortable in it no matter what position I tried. We do use the baby Bjorn all the time. Even now that he is almost 10 months old and still huge! haha He likes riding in front and facing out so he can pretend he is leading me around! Both my husband and I use it and find if very comfortable. |

Do NOT get a sideways sling carrier, they have had a lot of recalls and aren 't safe, and new guidelines are bring set for them! I 'd just get them a harness carrier that baby sits in in front of them. I had an infantino one, it was blue, and it was very comfortable and adjustable. |

I love my ring sling...love, love, love it! I also have a moby-style wrap, which I 'm pretty fond of as well, but as summer gets hotter and hotter, it 's quite warm to carry my little guy in it. I love that the ring sling can adapt to different ages, too- when he was newborn my boy got cradle-carried a lot in it or tummy-to-tummy carried. Now he is 5 months and loves to sit facing outward so he can see the world. Soon we will be able to maneuver it to hip carry him when he 's big enough. The moby is really awesome, too. I think my babe prefers it, actually- the front carry in a moby is really secure. If it were fall or winter when he hit this age, it probably would be perfect- it 's just soooo hot now. By the way- you can 't carry a baby on the back until after 4 months and you have to be careful with a lot of front carriers before that point to make sure they can support the neck. The reason is- the baby has no neck control to support his own head before that point. |

I have a Moby wrap and an Ergo. I love them both. The Ergo might be something to look into here, it is a little more manly then other carriers. There are 3 positions, a front hold , a back carry and a side carry. It holds up to 40lbs so it will be useful for a long time. |
