Other than a crib, what baby furniture are you planning to buy and how much do you plan to pay?

Question: Other than a crib, what baby furniture are you planning to buy and how much do you plan to pay?

(Posted by: Seafoodlover on 2009-08-27 06:21:44)

I have been looking around and really don& #039;t know what to buy. I know I need a crib but I am assuming I need some sort of chest or dresser as well, right? I have looked at Target and Burlington Coat Factory and a couple of resale shops. What is the average price to pay for these items? What are you planning to pay? What all are you planning to buy? I want a crib, a dresser or chest, a bassinet, and a swing to start. I am also going to buy other nursery decor. I have set aside $1, 000 to buy these items. Will that be enough? We are not good savers and are really going to have make a change and get serious with budgeting now that we& #039;ll have a child. 15 weeks and 4 days.

I 've been looking at Wal-Mart for my stuff and they have some nice things. I 'm putting some of these items on my baby shower list. I would think $1,000 would be plenty. So far, my crib, bassinett, changing table, and swing are costing about $500 total. You should be fine to buy everything you need for this amount.

$1,000 is plenty.. If i we 're you, id buy them used. All it takes is a little washing up. That way you dont have to spend all that money.. You 'll even have some left over.. :)

You can get a bedroom set (crib, changing table, and dresser) for $200 from Walmart. Grab a mattress for $50, swing for $90, and call it good for $340.

$1000 dollars sounds good. You can find cribs from 200-400 depending on what kind you need. Then get a dresser, im sure arent too expensive. If you get a pack n play with a bassinet attatchment, that will be about 180. and swings vary in the 140-150 's. You should have plenty of money. I found a crib from someone used. that is in really good shape that I am going to purchase for $150. I plan on purchasing a pack n play from buybuybaby.com for $180, Check wal mart and target for cribs. there are a couple cute ones with attatched changing tables at decent prices. You might also want to consider getting a rocking chair of some sort. like a glider rocker. Congrats and good luck!

You should try Target... They have a crib that can later be turned into a bed for the baby. and they have a dresser and changing table for around 200 dollars. Thats where I 'm getting my stuff from. I 'm going to target and getting and crib(300) and changing table(200) and the chair for myself(200) A bassinet isn 't really needed all too much since the baby will grow right out of it. And ask around family and friends if they have a swing, I got my swing for free.

We 've got a crib, bassinet, dresser, and rocking chair. Those are the big items. The crib we got as a present from my hubbys parents, it was 800$-ish The bassinet, we got from my aunt, I don 't know what she paid for it. The dresser we are getting from my hubbys Aunt, it 's about 600$ And the rocking chair has been in my hubbys family for 3 generations. So, we were really lucking and didn 't have to buy many things for the baby. Clothing we got from my aunt who just had a baby this past october. As for the crib and dresser, try a place that you can bargine your way into them throwing the dresser in with the crib or giving you 75% off or something. For a swing, you can always look second hand at kijiji.com or something. But I think 1000$ can get you a lot if you spend it carefully :) Best of luck!! Hopefully you find what you like :)

We just purchased a crib and two dressers from Jcpenny and spent a total of about eight hundred and fifty dollars! Here is a link to the set we purchased: www4.jcpenney.com/ jcp/ X6E.aspx?DeptID= 62438 &CatID= 63846 &GrpTyp= ENS &ItemID= 14a518d &attrtype= &attrvalue= &CMID= 62438%7c62702%7c63845 &Fltr= &Srt= &QL= F &IND= 6 &cmVirtualCat= &CmCatId= 62438|62702|63845|63846 I don 't think I would have spent that much if it weren 't something that she could use for years to come. The crib goes from a crib, to toddler bed to full size bed & the dressers will work for however long :o) I honestly don 't see a point in buying a bassinet because we 're going to use her pack & play, which has a bassinet part in it :) We 'll get much more use out of a pack & play ..rather than a bassinet. Good luck!

Swings and bassinets I would definitely get at a consignment shop or look in the paper for them. Kids aren 't in them forever. As for a crib I would look for a 3 in 1 which goes from crib, to toddler bed to full size bed. You can find one at Walmart for under $200 and you wont have to get another bed in 2 years. My daughters changing table has 4 drawers under it. After she got old enough we took the changing pad off and its got books and other odd things on top of it.

I am going to be honest, I am picky. I am very picky lol. I looked and looked for cribs/ changing tables, etc and pretty much had everything picked out. They didn 't cost too much but I still felt like I should keep looking. I found a beautiful black crib including mattress (perfect condition) for $20. We love our crib and are so glad we looked on craigslist. It 's hit or miss though, I looked many weeks before I found anything. But, you have time. Also, we have decided not to buy any other furniture other than a swing. We already have a dresser and I hear changing tables are rarely used. We have a small entertainment center that we are converting into shelving and I will put cute baskets in it. Also, check out places like Once Upon A Child. We found a swing ($150 at babies r us) in perfect condition for $55 there. Unfortunately it is sold but we keep checking back as they get things like that in fairly often. Start getting things here and there. I wish I could go back and do that. Now I am tired and it 's crunch time as I 've already started having contractions. Good luck and of course, Congrats!

I think everybody buys things according to their budgets and how much space they have. there is one advise i can give you though..do look at things at walmart.com and amazon.com. mostly you don 't have to pay shipping and things are a lot cheaper then in target or burlington or babies r us

Don 't buy them yourself yet! Wait until your baby shower, unless you are not having one, you should get alot of nice things. Maybe buy the crib and bassinet, but hold off on the swing and such. I don 't know how much you are willing to pay either but I did see a very cute light wood dresser at Walmart for like 90 dollars. It 's cute and small, maybe 4 drawers or so. Seems perfect to me, you should go there and check out the furniture. Good luck :)
