Ok so I am on a really tight budget. And have a long way until my child is born. However I don& #039;t have money for brand new baby furniture. We are sharing a room with my boyfriend which is already crammed. So do you think baby furniture from a resale shop is Ok? I& #039;m talking swing, crib, bouncer, etc. I have a travel system picked out already just for safety purposes. Thanks guys you are helping a lot. Especially with the matress I hadn& #039;t thought about that. And the car seat I am expecting to get at a baby shower if not that we will buy straight from the store! |

Yes. Nothing wrong with trying to save money. Just make sure after you purchase the equipment to thoroughly clean it. And before purchasing it inspect the equipment to make sure it 's intact and safe for baby. |

Should be ok - have you had a baby shower? If you register at Target, you can get a lot of new stuff that way, and money from people. That 'll help in your purchasing. But I think as long as you inspect it, and it 's clean, and clean it after you get home, it should be all right. |

Yes the only thing I wouldn 't use used is the mattress. You can find some really good things pretty cheap at resale shops. |

Get it from a trusted resale shop and you 'll be fine. They check out everything they sell before putting it in the store so that you don 't have to worry about getting anything defective. Make sure to check recall lists before purchasing anything, as some items could be outdated. Congrats :) |

Buying used furniture is a great idea to save money the only thing recommended that you buy new is a mattress cause their finding that used mattresses are linked to sids cause there is an imprint of the previous child and a car seat other than that save as much money as possible |

Absolutely!!! All of that stuff can get very expensive and you can find some really great stuff at second hand stores. There are some in my area that have great items! Look for a big wheels to butterflies and once upon a child (or something similar) in your area. They have great items that look practically brand new! GOOD LUCK! |

There is nothing wrong with second hand stuff but you gotta be careful especially with a used crib because it may seem fine but it may not meet the safety standards so if you get anything that is second you should maybe have it checked out first before getting it. Do you know any family members who could help you out though? |

We have got most of our baby furniture from craigslist. It is just important to check for any damage ie; missing screws, cracks, and just any general instability. Also, be very cautious with anything painted, just because of the concern with lead paint. It is your child, and most likely if you deam it safe enough, it should be. As new parents we are most likely going to err on the side of overprotective as opposed to careless. With careseats, although it sounds like you already have one, just be sure if you 've purchased it second hand to register it with the company to be alerted of any recalls and try to check with a previous owner about any car accidents it may have been in. Even if you can 't see damage, it doesn 't mean it 's safe. |
