Baby Furniture

Question: Where can i find assistance with baby furniture and supplies in cleveland?

My sister lives in East Cleveland and cannot find any assistance. She is due any day now. There are a few pregnancy centers around but they either have waiting lists, or do not help with large items. My family has absolutely no money. No, my 16 year old sister should not have gotten pregnant, but she is and now we have to give her baby the best life possible. So, only positive and helpful responses, please. Thanks

She will have to sleep on the floor with her baby. Not a problem. It is the primary reason why Japan has such low rates of SIDS. If your family has no money, that is her only choice. You can 't squeeze money out of a rock. Your family will have to come up with some funds and buy something at a garage sale. Before you think I 'm snarky, Ohio has a problem with pregnant women who don 't even have homes. That is a far greater need than providing your sister with a crib. The economy has made the situation much more difficult.

It sounds like she 's exhausted the resources I would have sent her to (she might also try freecycle.com and craigslist.com) so at this point I would suggest that she get creative. She doesn 't technically need a baby bed, for example, she can do fine with a folded blanket inside a pillow case placed in a dresser drawer. So long as it 's not thick enough for an infant to suffocate, loose enough to get tangled and it has sides to keep the baby from tipping out, it does the job. You don 't need a dresser. You don 't need a changing table. You don 't need an exersaucer. You don 't need a high chair. You don 't need a stroller. Check with your local health department or WIC office about how to get a free or reduced price car seat and beyond that, make due. Babies don 't need half the stuff we worry about them not having.
