Question: Have you bought baby furniture yet?? please help!?
(Posted by: Mama_MJ on 2010-07-10 16:21:12)
Hi, I& #039;m a few months pregnant. Starting to look at baby furniture, mostly just to get an idea of the cost. I& #039;m just wondering, have you other expectant moms bought any furniture yet? What is the best time to do so? Can i just get a bassinet then get a crib a little later? Also, are you buying most of it yourself, or do the grandparents tend to buy alot of it for you?? Is Babys- R- Us furniture pretty good? It seems to be alot more affordable then Pottery Barn Kids. Did you buy used or new?? I& #039;d appreciate any info current or expectant moms have about the topic of Baby Furniture in general. Thanks, Soon to be 1st Time Mom! |

I am 34 weeks so my son 's nursery room is done. The best time to start buying stuff is after the first trimester. Don 't get a bassinet they are a waste of money and space because the baby won 't be in there for long. I got most of my son 's stuff at K-mart and Babies-R-Us and all of the stuff is good and sturdy. I got all new stuff. |

For crib bassinet is good or just get a pack and play. That lasts a lot longer and grows with the baby. It has a newborn divider that is what my boyfriend will be using for our daughter until we get a place together. It really works well. It comes also with a little section with a changer on it so I really don 't even need a changing table but someone bought me one so I accepted it very thankfully. Other than that on the topic of when to buy furniture I can 't be too much help because I had a lot of stuff from my son still so I am just reusing it since it 's barely 3 years old. But my suggestion for you would be pack and play instead of bassinet you will get far more use out of it. |

The grandparents typically buy the big stuff, my son 's father 's parents got him the crib, bureau and changing table. It came from walmart, less then $200 for all three and they are great! I would save up then wait til the baby shower to see what you get. I bought clothes rather early and things to decorate his room so that people would know what theme I was going for. I didn 't even use a bassinet, I felt like the crib was too big so what I did was I received a moses basket and just put that in the crib, that way he was able to use his crib right away and it wasn 't like he was in a big bed! But you should definitely make a list and hopefully people are willing to help wit that list! |

I guess it depends on you. I bought a ton of stuff all 9 months, more after i found out i was having a girl, but my mom and my grandparents did help out a lot with the big things crib, travel system, I suppose it depends on if the are able to help you. Used things are good to when my older brother and his wife had their daughter I sent over everything I wasn 't using any more mostly everything for a baby before one year if treated properly is still in really good shape and usually less then half price and sometimes even free people are sometimes dying to unload old baby things. |

Im 10 weeks with #2, so we havent gotten anything for this baby yet. when i was pregnant with my son, we bought his crib and changing table around 25 weeks. my father in law built my sons dresser. crib came from walmart and was under $200, its a 4-in-1 convert. crib. hes in the toddler bed stage now (will be 3 in october) changing table came from Target and was $50 i buy everything new....i dont need the most expensive things, but i refuse to compromise safety, so new is the way to go. I will be using my sons changing table for this baby, but we will buy a new crib. The one i want is $250 which seems to be average now. I think Babies R Us is a little pricey for furniture. you can get the same brand at Target for cheaper. we plan to buy everything ourselves, which is the responsible thing to plan for. if someone offers to buy you things, then great, but dont expect it. |

I 'm 15 weeks and I 've only bought a blanket and a few toys. I might go out and get the bed set I want within the next few weeks but other than that I 'm going to wait until my 20 week scan to buy the big stuff. I have almost everything picked out but I still want to wait just in case something goes on sale. Do not expect anyone to buy any of the big stuff. If they want to then that 's awesome but you need to plan as if you have to pay for every single thing. I plan to pay for every single thing all by myself. My boyfriend won 't even be paying for anything because he 's in a bit of debt so I don 't want him to worry about it. I 'm also buying everything brand new. It doesn 't have to be the best or most expensive but it has to be safe. That is what 's important. |

I did not buy new, but the truth is. I dont see the point in spending a BUNCH of money on something they will not use longterm.Babies grow very fast. There is a set at Walmart that is very nice. It has a crib that turns into a toddler bed and full size bed, dresser, and changing table all for 250 dollars. Its really nice quality suprisingly. walmart.com/ ip/ BSF-Baby-3-pc-Sleigh-4-in-1-Crib-Changing-Table-and-Clothing-Organizer-Set-White/ 12330430 |

My cot, moses basket, pushchair, baby bath and steriliser are all second hand...it 's pointless buying brand new because most things are only used for a few months and I have loads of friends who need to get rid of stuff as their children are older. Many of the clothes I have are second hand also, especially the new born stuff as they only wear it for a couple of weeks so it doesn 't really get chance to get abused. Everything that I have I have washed and sterilised. I haven 't always been like this, my 1st pregnancy I bought everything brand new and spent a fortune. I quickly learned...the moses basket was only used for 2 weeks because my baby was long and managed to kick it off the stand so had to go into a full size cot, my pram was beautiful but impractical so I only used it twice before buying a different one and I had so many clothes that had only been worn once or twice before she our grew them (some clothes even still had the tags on where she never had chance to wear them) |

Mama MJ I can understand your situation as I too had similar confusions and a lot of queries when I was expecting my first child. This happens because you have a lot of options in front of you and it can get overwhelming. For my first born, I bought a crib as the baby will outgrow a bassinet in a few months time and then you would have to look for a crib. I got a convertible crib ababy.com/ itempage.asp?CategoryID= 126 &mirid= 0 &itemno= 15149 which I am now using as a toddler bed. I bought it from aBaby.com. It was simple to place an order on their website and their friendly staff helped me with my purchase. The products shipped were safe. You may also try them. |
