A personalized piggy bank with his name on it filled with some dollar gold coins to start OR just the personalized piggy bank with one coin (for good luck) and a book or two?

For my children I received little piggy banks that were empty and I filled with a roll each of pennies nickels dimes and quarters all from the year of birth. Depending on the size of the piggy jar thats what I would do. Fill it with rolls of coins from the year of birth. Also if he is your newest nephew because he was just born books probably wouldn 't be best. I would talk to babies mom and see what she needs help with. Diapers make a great gift LOL.
