Question: What kind of essential baby items should i include on my registery? first time mom & not sure what to get.?

Im 18 weeks pregnant & amp; on Tues I have the gender ultrasound to hopefully see what sex the baby is. I plan on registering after the appointment with my mom & amp; fiance & amp; Im unsure about what eseential baby items to make sure to include on the registery. This is our first child & amp; I thought my mom could help us, but Im 29 yrs old & amp; she says it& #039;s been forever since she had kids & amp; she doesnt even know about stuff like a diaper genie lol. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks ladies! Very informative & amp; helpful answers! Im so excited! =)

First of all, congrats! I have a diaper genie and I 've never used it a day in my daughter 's life (15 months). Things I would recommend asking for are clothes, 3-6 month, 6-9 month, and 12 month. Newborn size clothes are cute, but impractical since babies grow out of them so quickly (usually). You could ask for anything you don 't have, like a car seat, stroller, a baby bath, bath supplies, a high chair, a bouncer, a baby swing, a pack n play, etc. Diapers are always a good thing to ask for, too. ;)

Diaper genies you don 't really need and the refills are expensive. i would get lots of sheets, blankets, mattress protectors, wraps, bibs/ burp cloths nursing pillows are handy to have as are sling/ carrier for when doing quick trips in the shops where you need your hands free. night light for me was a must have, so much easier to change and feed without waking them up too much as it 's not too bright.

Ok here we go... diapers Wipes Baby shampoo/ disposable wash cloths Towels (you may just end up using your own though) Diaper bag Bottles Pacifiers Toys/ teethers Clothing in multiple sizes Crib Mattress Changing table (I opted to use an existing piece of furniture instead as many do) 2-4 crib sheets 1-2 mattress pads You do NOT need the big expensive bedding set! Pick single pieces you like instead. The breathable bumper is awesome if you are worried about SIDS and you don 't have to move it to change the crib sheets. Carter 's makes fuzzy crib sheets too, totally awesome! Changing pad Changing pad covers Receiving blankets Car seats (register for a convertible and a carrier, who knows?) Stroller Baby carrier (I LOVE my Moby Wrap and it really is simple to use and affordable...my BabyBjorn sits in my closet) Burp cloths Diaper rash cream A newborn healthcare kit (comb, brush, nail clippers, nasal aspirator, thermometer etc) Canvas storage pieces Mittens, booties, hats You dont need a diaper pail, just get a trash can with a lid it 'll work the same. Baby monitor Boppy feeding pillow and two covers(you 'll use this with bottle or breastfeeding. Mine came in handy to sit on until the stitches from my first baby came out) Bottle brushes Swing Bouncer Jumper Playpen for travel/ grandma 's house. Most also have a bassinet High chair MORE burp cloths....you 'll need them! Baby book Breast pump if breastfeeding and plan on working or leaving baby with anyone else Keep in mind that people will usually buy what they want no matter what, and keep the tags on for returns!

And put lots of differently priced items on there. I agree diff sized clothing but once people know what you 're having they 'll buy clothes anyways so limit that. Things you 'll go through fast - diapers, wipes, pjs, bottles. Also put things that you may need later like mealtime things. One thing a lot of ppl forget about is toys. Sure your baby wont be able to play with them right away but soon enough you can shake a rattle for them or place them on a playmat. You 'll probably only use a few blankets so just ask for a couple of them. I have a drawer full yet we stick to like 3. Decide on your nursery theme too which will help you to ask for items in there. Things you might want to skip - the genie (no one I know used theirs either use a trash bag), a sterilizer (you can boil bottles and the $ not spent on that can be spent on something more useful), crib wedge (not supposed to be used anymore, and if you are told to use it by ur ped u can buy it later)

Unfortunately you never really know what you 'll absolutely need until the baby arrives and you figure out your own particular parenting style. My advice, if you think you might use it go ahead and put it on the registry. Everyone will have a different essential baby item that they wouldn 't want to live without, but in reality people got by for thousands of years without any of this stuff and even in this day and age very few things are absolutely "essential " for a newborn. For me, the one thing I put on my registry that it turns out I don 't think I would want to live without was my sling. I would definitely register for the big stuff, like a car seat and nursery furniture. If you think you might be interested in keeping the baby in your room (at least for the first few weeks/ months) then you should register for a bassinet or pack and play. You should probably also register for a stroller (although I hardly ever use mine because the sling is so much easier for me...I do anticipate using it more as my son gets older), cloth diapers (even if you don 't use them as diapers they make the BEST burp cloths ever), and crib sheets. You should also consider a baby bathtub (I LOVE mine as it is so easy to bathe my son in the kitchen sink rather than bending down or kneeling to do it in the bath tub). I would go easy on things like clothing, towels, and blankets because these are items that people are likely to get for you whether you ask for them or not (we hardly registered for any bath stuff at all but we have enough towels and soaps to keep our baby squeaky clean for at least the first year of his life if not longer! and more blankets that I think we will ever use). I would also consider registering for safety stuff like outlet covers, cabinet locks, stove or doorknob covers, and gates. These things won 't be necessary until your little one starts getting around on their own, but it is nice to have them already in the house and not have to worry about purchasing them. I would also register for a few bottles, even if you plan on breastfeeding exclusively, just in case. And if you do plan on breastfeeding I would recommend registering for a good pump.

I will just list what I felt was a few lifesavers. The Fisher Price cradle swing (make sure it plugs in bc battery ones eat batteries). The First years bottle sterilizer. Boppy Pillow if you are breastfeeding. Medela Pump in style at Target. I have always heard everyone say they like the Avent bottles. I used the playtex ones and they worked great and my son had no colic issues. If you are breastfeeding than you should buy bottles that are wide and shaped like the breast. The best bottle are "The First Years, Breastflow bottles ". Those bottle make the baby feed like on the breast. Also, I like the Fisher Price bathtubs with the canopy in it for a newborn.
