When to buy baby items?

Question: When to buy baby items?

(Posted by: YummyMummyToAGorgeousGirl! on 2009-12-28 10:58:52)

I was just wondering when everyone started buying things for their due baby/ how many weeks were you? Things like clothes, travel systems, bottles...etc etc. I& #039;m 6 months and a week and starting to worry because i& #039;ve only got a couple of sleep- suits and vests plus a blanket! =S Thanks in advance! X Still don& #039;t know the sex - hoping to find out on the 18th.

I 've never been pregnant, but my stepmom had a baby last year. she started buying stuff after she was three months just to make sure everything was going well. get to shoppin ' girl! :D congrats on the baby, as well!

Don 't worry too much, as when the baby arrives I 'm sure it 'll get a lot of things, just make sure you have all the essentials like a pram, a cot, bottles and sterilising fluid, you don 't know what size clothes or nappies you 'll need until it 's born anyway, so don 't worry about clothes, as long as there 's a blanket it will do until you know how big it is.

After the baby shower! If you aren 't having a shower, now is a good time to start. If you are having a shower, you should at least start a registry. That way you have everything picked out, people can buy you stuff from there, and then right before the baby comes, you can decide what you really need from the registry and just buy it all yourself! You will want to have a good base of stuff because you will not have time to worry about shopping a lot when baby comes, but don 't go crazy either! Each baby seems to have particular preference for bottles/ pacis, etc. If you buy a bunch of one kind, you may later realize a different type is better. I tried to just get a couple different kinds and then when we realized what worked, we bought more of that kind. Good luck mama!

This is my first, but I am not having a baby shower.. So when I found out I was pregnant I couldnt help but to buy 1 or 2 things right away (small things) I didnt start buying more things here and there until I was 13 weeks or so. I am 20 weeks 4 days now and I have most of the small stuff that he will need like: *clothes (onesies, sleep n plays, gowns, socks, mittens, hats, etc) *LOTS of wipes *burp cloths *recieving blankets *grooming and health stuff (thermometers, medicine droppers, brush nail clippers, towels, washcloths, lotion, powder, desitin, etc) *Diaper bag *carrier/ sling *Bottles (I 'm going to use playtex drop ins to work with my breastpump I am going to buy) And things like that.. But my fiance and I arent getting the big stuff (crib/ changer, carrier/ stroller, motion monitor, breast pump, swing) until my 6th month Especially ordering online I want to have time to return or exchange if I hate the products or if they 're damaged.. I hope to have everything pretty much done by 7 and 1/ 2 months. I hate last minute things!

I 'm due just a few days before you and I already have everything for my little boy. But I 'm a little neurotic...lol. I believe in having everything done and prepared so that my last few weeks will be relaxed enjoyable ones.

I started buying things when I found out I was pregnant. Things that didn 't require a specific gender like stroller, carseat, crib, soft carrier, etc. And then usually around the time of the ultrasound I 'd give it a shot at finding the sex and if I couldn 't find out I went out and bought neutrals enough to get me through til the baby was born and I could go out and buy more gender specific clothing. When I have found out via ultrasound the gender, like I know mine now, I usually start buying a few things here and there starting right after the u/ s and keep going until I feel I 've finished. I just bought a ton of cute sleepers and sets recently, because my baby will be born in cold weather here and it 's cold weather clearance sales so if you do know the gender and need certain things, now would be the time to get them. Where I live, April is a very snowy month, so I 'd be focusing on getting out there and getting enough thicker blankets, warm sleepers, and hats etc now before they switch to the thinner "spring " line of clothing. Of course, this being my 6th baby, I 'm pretty much just buying to satisfy my need to buy something cute or replace something that has worn out, because I have everything.

We weren 't going to buy anything until after my baby shower but we got too excited and started buying stuff at 20 weeks when we found out the gender. we got the stroller and car seat at 10 weeks because we got a really good deal on it. if the baby came tomorrow, we would be ready for him. every piece of clothing was given to us. we haven 't bought much, but the things we did buy, we know we will get at my baby shower. we just bought it anyway lol. the only thing we need and don 't have is a diaper bag. i know i will definitely get one at the baby shower.

My mom started taking me to rummage sales to get baby stuff when I was maybe 2 or 3 months along. It 's a good thing she insisted on doing that because we found some really nice stuff, like practically new, for really cheap. My sister started buying me baby stuff around that time too. I 'm now 32 weeks. The only things I actually have to buy still are bottles, and something to carry bottles in so they don 't spill. I think that 's about it. I 'm probably missing a few things yet, but I have most of the basics anyway.

Hello congratulations on the pregnancy.. I don 't no about anyone else but im 15 weeks and 3 days and already have: Moses basket nappies wipes walker high chair some clothes lots more things.... I think its best you start getting the stuff you need very soon as you wont have much time left to get it all sorted.

We haven 't bought anything but a car seat and stroller and i am 8 months along. lol. but we have had over 100 outfits given to use. We are just waiting until the baby shower to buy things. :)

I am almost 6 months and have bought the essentials, like the cot, travel cot, bottles, steriliser, nappies and wipes and some clothes. I have also bought things i did not need to get yet in the sales etc. The only thing i would say is get essentials now before you really don 't feel like it. My friends advised me to get some stuff before i get too far along as i wont feel like shopping at 8 months gone. I bought a lot of clothes after i found out what the gender was. Also join all the baby clubs you can you get lots of money off nappies, wipes etc like tesco, sainsburys, hipp, huggies, pampers, Emma 's diary, there are more but i cant think of them. Good luck and hope this helps

I 'm 23 weeks with #3 today (my first boy!!) and I have all of my large items already. I have my crib/ mattress/ bedding, bassinet, playpen, 2 infant car-seats with stroller combos, swing, bouncer seat, high chair, toys, numerous onesies & sleepers in sizes from newborn up to 6 months. I have socks, outfits, hooded towels, washcloths, a couple of soft fleece blankets, some bottles and a large box of newborn diapers. I feel like I 'm forgetting something and if I am, I 'll edit. My kids are almost 7 & 9 so I got rid of my crib and other items a long time ago, so this time I had to buy them all over again! Plus my other 2 kids are girls, so there 's really nothing to pass down. And the only shower I would maybe get is through work and since there 's 2 of us due within a week of each other right now, I highly doubt I 'll get much if anything from work. I would say start shopping soon other-wise it 's too much of a strain when you have to do it all at one time. You can always try eBay to save some money too~~many people sell items in lots for baby clothing too. Good luck!
