I started right away. with each paycheck I got something. lol But usually after your baby shower is the best time. That way you know what you really need. |

I would definitely wait until the last month, maybe after baby shower. I was pregranant and I miscarried in my 12th week... you don 't want to look at the baby stuff let alone return it... You can always put money aside everytime you want to buy something, that way its not a huge out of pocket event. |

Definitely wait until after your shower so you can evaluate what you don 't have and then get it. Believe it or not I had about $1100 worth of returns after my baby shower, in which I used to purchase the stuff I was missing and a few things that I just HAD to have! :) Good luck! |

IMO, right after the first trimester is the best time. You can buy some items in teh first trimester, but you have to accept that 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in miscarriage during this time. Once that 12 week period is over, it is safe to shop. Also pregnancy is still new, and it is fun! But you won 't know the sexes, so do this only if you are okay with unisex items. At 18 weeks you are still happy, feeling great, excited and mobile. And you can know the sexes if this matters to you. A great time to shop. By 28 weeks you may not be able to shop much anymore. You may even be on bed rest. You will want to start nesting, and may not want to shop anymore. I am 30 weeks, and have done my shopping carefully, buying slowly used items in mint condition at low cost. I now need to store those items, wash them, disinfect them, put batteries in them... all while my doctor is telling me to stay off my feet as much as possible. I am having twins though, and am already the size of a singleton ready to deliver. I have 7 pounds of baby in me, and an extra quart of fluid from the second sac. For me to start shopping now would be too late. I did some super fun symbolic shopping first trimester. I then bought some big ticket items I wouldn 't ask for at the shower, like stroller, car seat etc. I had my shower at 23 weeks when I was showing quite well but still very comfortable. I then bought whatever I didn 't get at the shower. I am now down to a bit of "fun " shopping, for super cute thrift store outfits, and odds and ends I didn 't think of before. I am very happy about the early shopping, because I would be too stressed and rushed doing it now, and I wouldn 't enjoy it as much. Also it wouldn 't be healthy for me to push myself like that. Many things have to be assembled / washed etc. I have enough to do now, loading my Ipod, cleaning the house, getting everything ready. I really don 't need to be shopping to. perhaps with a much larger budget and buying everything new and not on sale etc. it would be okay to shop now. But to get bargains, you need to start earlier. So overall, second trimester is best. Your odds of miscarriage are low, and your health is optimal. I do agree that after the baby shower is best, but think it makes the most sense to step up when the baby shower is! |

I personaly started getting my baby clothes lil by lil since I was on my second trimester didn 't over due it I got him sizes from 0-3months or 6-9 but actually got all his things till I was 8 1/ 2 months since I had my baby shower when I was 7 1/ 2 months. My opinion is best to wait & see wat u get in ure baby shower make a list of the things u need/ want ahead of time & mark them off when u get them as a gift. If theyrs stuffs left to buy in ure list buy them before ure 9 months u don 't want to be waiting till the last minute its more stressful on u. |

I started immediately picking up essentials when they were on sale. |

If you want to pick up an outfit or two, or a stuffed animal thats fine. Otherwise, wait until after your baby shower to see what else you need, then go finish off your list. It was hard for me to not shop, so I made a long list of everything I needed to get, and how many. I would browse the stores, and get ideas etc to hold me over. Then my shower came, I got way more then I expected, and was able to finish my list and get a few extras for only a couple hundred dollars. |

Start early and watch for sales, the stuff adds up pretty quickly. I got put on bedrest with 7 weeks to go and didn 't have everything bought. Not good!! |
