Please read. i am getting everything new but i found a really nice playmat worth £50 (about $70) for £4 ($7) on eBay (it ends in 1hour with 1 bid so shouldnt go up much) the seller says its in perfect condition & amp; its local pick up (so if its not good i can refuse it) is it ok to buy 2nd hand things like this for your baby? im also looking at buying a Moses basket 2nd hand as they are only in it 3months ish and the cheapest in the shops is like £40 (without a stand!) and i can get a lovely one on eBay with a stand for like £20 ($32 ish) what do you think? |

The only things I wouldn 't buy second hand are car seats and cribs(and crib mattresses). Otherwise I 'm all about finding a good deal. The swing we have was originally $130 in stores but we got it second hand for $60. |

If you can save money, I say go for it. The baby won 't know any difference. Most of the stuff for my first child were hand-me-downs from family and friends. |

I got given EVERYTHING, cot, bassinet, clothing, linen.. EVERYTHING. I got new mattresses for the cot and bassinet, and washed everything really really well. Most stuff was given to me by my mums friend, as she has a son who is a year older than mine, some of the clothes have seen better days, so i just use them for when he is out in the sandpit, or spares i leave at grandparents houses. I personally would Gert all the things they grow out of quickly second hand.. its just not worth a couple of hundred for a bassinet, with all the trimmings, that SIDS say you have to strip down for safety reasons. or $100 for a jolly jumper and mat that got used about 10 times! |

2nd hand is better, babys grow out of stuff so quick and if there in great condition then why not? the baby wont know any different and most people wouldnt guess either, ebay is great for used baby stuff some of the stuff has barely been used either, i dont see the point of spending more than double on new, obviously items such as car seats mattresses, bottles etc all have to be new but pushchairs cost a fortune you can buy a nearly new pushchair on ebay can cost less than half the price in the shops and if you look well enough you will find ones that have been used maybe 2-3 times BARGAINS! |
