Buy a crib and car seat new. Things that you want to be sure are in good working condition. Buy bottles, dishes, etc. new. Buy crib sheets, gowns, etc. used if they are in good condition and aren 't stained. You 'll need a lot of clothes that you don 't care if they get messed up. Buy some new clothes, too, obviously, but unless you have the rare baby that never spits up, you 'll want some used things. |

Buying used is good for things like clothes and bedding etc. You do not want to buy a used car seat, safety equipement, bath tubs and other medical things like thermometers etc. There really is no point in going out and splurging on all brand new clothes. They grow out of them fast. |

My mother is a grandmother and sometimes babysits her grandchildren at the house for a few days. (I am an aunt, not a mother yet) anyways... My mother has asked people for a used baby crib & stroller. My mother also buys used baby clothes just in case the baby needs more clothes. Instead of running another laundry load for a few items. Yes, big ticketed items like crib, carriage, and baby swing. I would say used or borrow. Though, bottles or breast pumps always new. |

I felt the same way, but i am getting a little more lenient as his due date is getting nearer. i just tell people we dont want used items because i dont know where they 've been. the thing is though, babies grow so fast that a lot of places that have "used " items have new items as well because the baby grew too fast to wear the outfits or they just didnt like the item (some babies dont like swings or bouncers so the parents just sell them practically new) I would definitely get a new carseat because you dont know if its been in a crash or what baby has been throwing up on it, but other items i would just look to see if they look worn down before buying it and consider that you may want used items. We arent rich or poor but baby things are so pricey when you take a good look at how much stuff you need that any discounts are welcome |

There is nothing wrong with buying used items for baby. Because everything can be washed and scrubbed down. Besides that most of the stuff is usually fairly new. |

Some things are ok to get used. I would definitely buy a new car seat and crib and make sure the crib doesn 't have a drop down side. Other things like a monitor (If you can test it before you buy it and make sure it works), and some toys are fine to buy used. |

I think it 's fine to buy some things used. For example, a lot of my daughters ' clothes were used and given to me by friends with older kids. We bough one of those nice gliders at a garage sale for the nursury. They are like $200 new and we paid $20 and it looked brand new. Babies grow so fast that people don 't use things that long anyway. I also got a Peg Perego high chair like that. I wouldn 't get a used crib or car seat though. Those are very important things and you have to be sure they are in the best shape so they are safe for baby. |

I buy the big stuff (crib, stroller, carseat, toys etc) new and get most of the clothes used as long as they are in good condition. Babys grow too fast to spend a ton of money on brand new clothes every few months |

I bought both of the car seats new the crib was given to us by a friend. Almost all of my 16 month old son 's clothes, shoes, books and toys are used or given to us by friends and family. They outgrow their clothes so fast so its not worth spending a fortune on them. |

Make sure to spend atleast a thousand hard earn dollars on a crib, and atleast five hundred on a stroller.your going to need a thousand dollar car seat too.oh dont forget the silk diapers and the bottle sets from smallest to biggest you need to have them all.only buy silk blankets there so soft and snuggly.make sure your baby gets the best because babys obviously know the difference between new or used. |

I just had my first child 4months ago and I used to think that I wanted everything new too. But now that he is here I agree with people that you can get by with used things for a baby. Things like clothes, they grow out of so fast, and I have been able to easily find nice used baby clothes without a problem. I wish that I had bought my swing and bouncer for him used because he is one of those babies that doesn 't like to stay in them for too long. There are really just a couple of things that I feel should be brought new for a baby and that is a car seat (because you need one that is not expired and hasn 't been in an accident) and a breast pump (some women are fine using a used breast pump but I prefer new). But this is my opinion for my child. For your child you have to do what makes you feel comfortable and if buying new makes you comfortable then just tell people that you prefer new things. |

No one ever told me to buy used but I am a fan of buying used where it is okay and reasonable to do so. It really depends on what the item is. Here are things my son has new/ used: New - Crib, car seat & stroller set, playpen, swing (had used but was given a new one at my shower), miscellaneous outfits given to me and maybe about 1-2 outfits I bought new, wipe warmer, shampo, lotions, diaper rash cream (of course new), toys (mostly recieved as gifts), bottles, bottle drying rack, bottle warmer (given to me - waste of money in my opinion), mattress, crib bedding set (gift), breast pump (would never buy used - spread of germs obviously). Used - clothes (either handed down from my nephew or from savers), activity center (craigslist), walker (nephew), toys (nephew or savers - disinfected of course). Just depends on the item..... |

Things like bouncers, pack-n-plays baby bjorn carriers and the sort can be bought used. But I wouldn 't recommend a used car seat and such. I was lucky and had a lot of people give me things they no longer needed. My glider and ottoman, pack-n-play and baby bjorn carrier was all given to me by a co-worker who no longer had little children at home and didn 't need it anymore. I felt blessed to get it all because it was all very good stuff. There is nothing wrong with buying used stuff as long as it is in good condition and you are happy with it. There is no harm in buying some stuff new. Please buy a new car seat for sure. In the end it is your decision whether you buy new or used. Next time someone says it just say thank you for your suggestion, I will take that into consideration and then do whatever you feel comfortable with. |

If you clean everything properly I will be fine. And you get great product already used, so your not taking anything from your baby in experience or in comfort. Just choose the items good and you can save a little money for things you have to buy new, like diapers or Hygiene products. |

Wait until the last month of your pregnancy, because people will give you all kinds of clothes and stuff. Make a registry at whatever store is convenient for your friends and family. When its close to "baby time " then you can start deciding what you still need to buy, and what you may want to find used. And, the free stuff doesn 't stop once the baby is born, there will be another "wave " of gifts then, too. |

The crib, car seat, and sheets for the crib I would buy new. Your baby will go through clothing pretty quickly, so that you may want to buy used, just make sure everything is washed before you child wears it the first time. Toys I would also buy new. |

Set a budget for what you can afford to spend on baby items. Then figure out what amount of it can be new and what should be used. Then tell the people who tell you to buy used that you are following your budget. It 's not really any of their business whether or not you buy new or used. They may just be trying to help...My husband and I had our first child last October, and we bought pretty much everything new. I didn 't plan on doing it that way, but once I started shopping I just fell in love with the newer more modern items. You 'll figure out whats best for your child regardless of how you buy the item. Happy Shopping! |
