(Posted by: Emily K on 2010-06-04 09:04:30)
My mom kicked my 5 month old son the father and me out of her house 4 months ago. we lived in a shelter for a month and just recently got in a townhouse 3 weeks ago, I& #039;m pregnant again with a girl but all I own is boy clothes and my m, om kept half of my things I have no high chair for my 5 month old and he& #039;s been starting to eat cereal. my problem is all of our income goes towards rent and bills plus formula diapers and wipes. I have some things like a bouncy seat and a swing which my 5 month uses right now and a 3- 1 crib but than i would need something for my son to sleep in if i use the crib for the new baby. my main concern would be clothes and such. oh dear please any suggestions |

I don 't want to be rude but did you not think about this before getting pregnant again? |

It won 't hurt your baby girl to wear some of your son 's hand me down clothes. :-) You can get one of those portable high chairs from Walmart for around $22 (I know, just bought one). As your son gets bigger, you could always buy more "gender neutral " clothing for him, and reuse it when your daughter gets bigger. Have you looked into any assistance programs in your area? Maybe WIC? |

Well, you can always check with the Salvation Army or Goodwill if you are looking for donations. Also, you can save a TON on formula if you breastfeed. Best of luck to you |

I feel bad for you but you put yourself in the position. If you really don 't think you can support another child then give the baby up for adoption. It 's the best thing you can do if you can 't take care of her. Please don 't live off of the state though. If you can 't support yourself then don 't have another baby. |

Go to your local Social Services office and ask about applying for WIC and Foodstamps - if you qualify, it could help you pay for food and formula so that you might have a little cash to put toward baby items that you need. You can also check out local thrift shops, consignment stores, and yardsales for affordable baby items - just wash things when you get them home and be sure to check online to make sure nothing has been recalled for safety reasons. Baby can actually wear 'boy ' clothes for awhile - you know they grow out of the newborn clothes so quickly anyway that it might be a very short time. You can always just one of those cute little headbands w/ a bow on it if you 're afraid you 'll get annoyed with people mistaking her for a boy. :) If you have any friends or family that have kids a little older than yours, ask if they have any leftover baby items that they want to 'get out of the way ', you might get lucky and find someone that has a nice box of baby girl clothes or crib that they 're just dying to find a new home for. If breastfeeding is an option for you, it 's obviously cheaper than formula. LOL But I know it doesn 't work for everyone, so here 's another suggestion: Contact all of the formula companies (enfamil, similac, nestle/ gerber goodstart) and sign up for their programs - they all have programs where you can sign up when you 're pregnant and they will send you coupons (checks actually to spend on formula in stores) and sometimes free samples. When you sign up, tell them you 're planning to breastfeed (even if you 're not) b/ c that seems to make them work a little harder and send you better coupons and samples to try and entice you to try formula. (no joke - I signed up with all of them saying I was going to breastfeed only - which is true for me - and I got several free cans and high-value coupons/ checks from more than 1 company). |

I had to wear little boys clothes for most of my life and I don 't think it was that bad, I had some girl clothes and you dont need everything pink just try to get by... i would go to a social services or low income venue that would be able to help... do you have something like a church or salvation army that would give or sell things to you for cheap. here we also have a good food bank that will give you food when you are in trouble. I hope you can find something around your community. good luck and happy pregnancy. |

Look on craigslist and freecycle, you should be able to find people wanting to unload some baby clothes. Also check local churches and goodwill, they often have services for moms in need. Call the local health department, often times they can point you in the right direction. And remember, if a girl baby sleeps in firetruck jammies, she won;t be scarred for life, a baby cares more about keeping warm and being loved than pink or blue. |

Try to get assistance, like wic or low income housing. Go down to the court house and ask at social services and they would be able to help you. Try talking to your boyfriends mom and see if she could help you. Check Freecycle for baby things or post an ad. I would use a playpen for your son or get a basinette. Garage sales are great places to get used baby items for cheap. Also check thrift stores. Hope this helps. |

Go to your nearest Health Department (Planned Parenthood). Also, ask people the same thing on Craigslist, I saw alot of posts last night for people trying to sell baby clothes and such, some people are even just giving stuff away because they need to get rid of it. |

Well for the 1st little while you can have your baby girl in the boy clothes, I am sure you have a couples of articles that would be unisex and won 't be that bad. You can also look into the pregnancy offices in your town. I know that in my town there is a place where they give away old baby clothes, some have a few stains on them but you choose what you want and in your situation that would be a great help. Well since it is the summer I suggest you scout garage sales. This is what we are doing for the things we don 't mind getting used. they sell stuff cheep at garage sales because they want to get rid of them and are usually still in great working order. Depending how old you son will be when your daughter is ready for the crib maybe you should invest in a twin bed right away. I would do so this way it is cheaper. I am not sure what else to tell you on how to get things for the baby, but when there is a will there is a way right so. I know you will be fine. |

Sorry to hear your going through hard times, Salvation army, good will are the stores id recommend (walmart has baby clothes on sale in my location for $3.00 a set) another awesome thing is yard/ garage sales which people have babies, then sell all their baby items and 8/ 10 they are in pretty decent condition. i 've also seen alot of stuff on craigslist, (they have a free section as well) and look in local newspaper ads. also in my area we have a pregnancy crisis center which if you watch some videos (3hrs worth) they give you a diaper bag with clothes fill in it (usually all new) and diapers/ wipes/ strollers and a car seat and pretty much anything else you dont have but need they donate if to you if your need. btw my location is Florida/ usa but you could google to see if their is any pregnancy crisis centers in your local area. i went yard selling a few months ago and got a brand new IN BOX playpen, which retailed at walmart for $250.00 (it is super nice, has a changing table, 2 levels, music lights etc) i paid $80.00 for the playpen IN BOX NEVER OPENED, and a bouncer, and some glass milk bottles. (they didn 't need it because it was green and white... and they were having a girl and his wife wanted a pink and brown one) good luck to you, i wish you the best of luck if you can and if you havent try to get into some sort of secondary education even if its not a 2 or 4yr degree, a CNA in my area makes $14.00hr and requires 12wks of school, and a LPN makes roughly $20hr and takes 1yr. also WIC might help you out alot, but remember that is assistance for people for a SHORT TERM period until you get back up on your feet. congrats on the baby girl |

Try craigslist.org they give away a lot of baby things or sell them really cheap. Go to yardsales. Apply for government assistance, WIC will give you formula. My mom used a lot of my brothers hand me downs for me when I was little, you have to make do with what you have. Good luck! |
