If you are just looking for the absolute basics, I would add a bouncy seat to your list. While not essential, it is really helpful to have somewhere safe to put the baby other than the crib, your arms or the floor - and it 's portable. |

Congrats. What you need as far as baby items really depends on your living situation. For example, many moms say that a changing table is worthless since the baby spends the majority of the time downstairs or in a different room. I agree ... we bought a scratch and dent dresser, repainted it, and used it as our changing table. We found it was much more functional and practical. As far a crib goes, it depends on whether you are going to have your baby sleep in the same room as you for a long period of time. We used our crib every night since our son was born - some mothers don 't. We got a reasonably priced crib from Target and has worked just fine. In my opinion, there isn 't a need to go to a fancy baby furnature store and buy an 8 piece bedroom set. Our one thing that we can 't live without is our bouncy chair (Fisher Price makes ours). our son loves it and will spend all day bouncing in it. In the past year, he has worn it out that we are needing to buy a new one for the new baby. Another thing we use everyday is our sound machine. It helps tune out the apartment noise to help him go to sleep easier. |

Bulk buy diapers, Amazon was good, Costco is great. Shop around and save vouchers that you clip from magazines or get through the post to save you money. I 'd recommend a snuzzler, they 're great for the car seat, especially when your baby is very small and has no control of their head. It supports their whole body. I 'd STRONGLY recommend a bouncy chair or a swing, something with enough of a recline to allow a newborn to sit in it without their head rolling over. Also, get a sling or baby carrier, kangaroo care can calm the fussiest of babies, but carrying a baby around all day is exhausting and you 'll get nothing done! Play mats are great to keep babies occupied while you work. Make sure you have swaddling blankets and burp blankets or muslin cloths, a baby bath, some baby friendly toiletries, nail clipper/ scissors, baby medicines (gas drops and gripe water for now), socks, scratch mitts, formula dispenser for outings (if you choose to bottle feed), breast pump (if you plan to breastfeed). Don 't struggle to get everything now though, if you don 't have a sling by the time the baby 's born, it 's not the end of the world and you can pick things up as you see a need for them. |
