Do you know anybody who recently had a baby who could possibly hand down some maternity wear and baby clothes? If not, then your next best bet is to check craigslist under the "free " section in your area, and see if anybody is getting rid of stuff that you can pick up for free. If not, then you can often find giant lots of baby items for DIRT cheap!

I know in my area there is a women 's clinic that is run by area churches. They give free pregnancy tests, prenatal vitamins, parenting classes, etc. They apparently help women that need baby clothes, car seats, and other necessities. I would check in your area to see if you have something like that.

Not for free, no - but depending on where you are in the world there is help available in the form of social grants and interest free loans which will help with the cost of buying things for you and your baby. Look in charity shops and local papers for secondhand baby accessories for cheap prices.

Your best bet would be looking on craigslist or asking any friends of yours for items to borrow. In the meantime just buy one of those stretchy bands for $15 at Motherhood. They go over your jeans so you can leave them unbuttoned and open without anyone noticing. Sometimes you can just get plus size clothes at ross that work just as good as maternity clothes. I also wouldn 't worry much about baby stuff yet because you 'll probably get at least enough things to get you started at your baby shower. For the first couple months your fine with -Diapers & Wipes -Formula and bottles -A layette with beanie -A pack n play with napper and changing table -Boppy pillow *If you can swing it a baby swing from a consignment store or friend.

Where do u live? if u live in the UK, most councils will have a web site called the swap shop. type in your area name Birmingham/ Manchester/ London etc followed by swap shop in google and should take you to your local one. Although the idea is to swap things, many people have ads that say will swap for a thank you or swap for free etc. Maybe a good place to try. Also, look in charity shops, babies outgrow their clothes so often, most mums like myself hate to part with hardly worn, fab clothes and donate to charity so someone else can benefit from them. Also Ebay do some cheap nice bundles of baby clothes and i recently bought maternity jeans from there. Your not in these things long and if you wanted to buy from next or high street stores your looking at £35-40 quid. Have a look on ebay and pick some up for a few quid. Peacocks also have nursing bras in stock at the mo, they are only £4 each!!! Bargain. Good luck

Ask people for clothes if they 've had babies. When or if you have a baby shower then request certain things.

If you google baby freebies and baby samples etc u can get pretty much all the items for baby nappies wipes creams dummies washing powder etc some are only sample size but there are thousands of sites out there giving freebies away, plus if you join to baby clubs u get money off vouchers etc

Try joining your local freecycle group - freecycle groups are local yahoo user groups which you join by sending an email and requesting "wanted " items and where others post items they have to give away - this is all done to avoid putting unwanted items in landfill. I often see lots of baby stuff on my local freecycle group.
