Question: Baby items that might be overlooked....?
(Posted by: Anirbas on 2010-07-12 14:19:56)
I& #039;m buying baby items for my step- son and his wife. I don& #039;t have children, so I& #039;m really not good at these types of purchases. We& #039;ve already got things like a crib, stroller, car seat, play- pen, bottles, diapers, baby monitors, baby- proofing stuff, high chair, clothing, blankets, wipes, etc, etc, etc I& #039;m looking for stuff that might not be considered & quot;baby paraphernalia& quot;, but is still very important. I& #039;ve decided to start buying laundry detergent when I can find it for cheap...I figure that laundry is going to be a big part of having a baby. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. We also got a & quot;first aid& quot; type thing nail clippers, tiny little scissors, thermometer, & quot;nose suction thingy& quot; (what the heck is that thing...LOL), and a bunch of other stuff is in the kit |

Organization tools. Baskets are a friend of mine! I have several of the wicker baskets with fabric lining for everything from big things like baby towels, wash cloths, burp cloths, etc. down to smaller baskets for keeping small things like nail clippers and lotion/ oil in one spot. A shoe shelf. Not for baby shoes, but for adult shoes. Once we had kids we made a rule that shoes would no longer be allowed inside on the floor (past the entry way, anyway). Just more sanitary for everyone. I think the most important thing you can get for them is your time. Even if it 's just coming over once a week to do a couple loads of laundry or to bring over a pre-cooked meal, it will be greatly appreciated. Last but not least, baby towels and rags. I don 't know what it is about those darn things, but I always feel like I cannot wash them as quickly as I am using them. If you find some one sale, get them. It never hurts to have too many. |

Motrin and Tylenol, the gas drops, teething tablets, bathing items, bottle brushes, breast pump, lansinoh breast milk storage bags. Medela makes sterilizing bags that last 20 uses in the microwave that I loved for the breastpump items, pacifiers, bottles, etc. Also a Boppy pillow was a must for me. The only clothes a newborn really needs is onesies and zip up sleepers or gowns with the open bottom for easy changing, but lots of them! Also don 't waste your money on Dreft laundry detergent--it is still scented so I do not know why it 's so special! Just buy any free and clear detergent...I prefer All. Anything you can get as a hand me down don 't be afraid to take! Except really old outdated items or carseats. If they are in an accident, they can get hairline cracks and completely fall apart if in another accident. |

Boppy pillow for feeding or propping baby up, Bumbo chair for helping baby sit up and can also be used as a portable highchair when you go to restaurants or friends houses, LOTS of bibs and burp cloths, alcohol and Q-tips for cleaning baby 's umbilical cord stump, baby lotion and wash, hooded towels and baby washcloths, Vaseline and diaper rash cream, infant Tylenol, Mylicon gas drops, pacifiers, waterproof crib pads, extra crib sheets, crib bedding set, pack and play or bassinet or co sleeper, vibrating bouncer chair (great for calming a crying baby and to put baby and keep him close by while mom showers or does chores), baby bathtub or bath sling, diaper bag, crib mobile or white noise machine, and the biggest and most important thing of all is to help mom and dad out when they are exhausted and sleep deprived by helping with laundry, cleaning, cooking meals, and grocery shopping. Congrats on the new baby in your family! They are truly a blessing! |
