What would it mean if someone bought baby items, and then decided not to have a baby?

Question: What would it mean if someone bought baby items, and then decided not to have a baby?

(Posted by: on 2012-02-11 19:08:19)

I was on craigslist looking at some baby items for sale, and there was someone who posted that they decided not to have a baby, and when i opened up the post, they wrote that they are selling LOADS of things baby and pregnancy related, i mean tubs and tubs of stuff! and all seasons and for both genders, up to 24months because they didn't want to know the sex. so my question is, why would someone prepare to that extent if they then decide not to have a baby? and what would their case be? adoption maybe? what do you think? that is so sad...at first i thought they were trolls, but then i thought about it, it seems real...and it seems like they wanted to adopt, or put their baby up for adoption...but they are selling pregnancy gear too... O_o ...i would never shop to that extent if i was still TTC...that is too devistating

They either A) went baby crazy for a while and got pregnant then someone talked them into an abortion. or B) Has a history of miscarriages and cannot have a baby.

I think they're lying. They bought the stuff at garage sales, and don't want to say so because you'd get the idea to go to garage sales yourself and cut out the middle man.

I would think it was someone that either decided not to go through with adoption, or the adoption fell through. After losing out on a baby, you might not want to try for adoption again. Emotionally it has to be tough if the birth mother changes her mind at the last minute. Or, the couple might have consider IVF or other more drastic measures. It might have become too expensive. I know my sister in law did everything except IVF to have her baby. And even with their large resources of money it got almost too expensive for them.

My guess is the stuff they are selling is stolen. If they bought all that stuff and never used it ... it could be returned to the store. Even without a receipt.

They could be compulsive shoppers, have been trying for a long time to conceive and have given up, or they could have had several miscarriages and have decided to give up. I have known several people who bought stuff while they were trying to conceieve a little at a time and after so long it adds up and after so long of trying and failing some people just give up.

I would have to think a few things. They were trying to have a baby and found out they couldn't .. Adoption may have fell through and they were unable to adopt.. They divorced ... or as someone suggested the stuff is stolen. Stolen seems to be the most reasonable explanation for this.

This question just reminded me of a show I watched last week (true story) where some psyco woman was pretending to be pregnant, found this other pregnant lady in her area using the babies r us registry names, lured her to her house telling her she had gotten her package by mistake, then she attacked her and tried to steal the baby right out of her stomach. The pregnant girl actually stabbed her then called the cops. when they got there they found a home c section kit and a fully stocked nursery. Apparently this woman had been buying baby things for years, hoping to have one and eventually decided to just steal someone elses! Probably not whats going on here, but be careful on craigslist anyways.
