Question: Has anyone used a goi goi baby pillow to avoid/treat plagiocephaly?
(Posted by: on 2009-02-13 03:39:55)
I am SO paranoid about my son developing flat heat syndrome, I do tummy time, he sits in his bumbo etc so I know I& #039;m doing all I can to avoid it. I& #039;ve seen these pillows: http:/ / www.goigoibabypillows.co.uk/ apparently in Sweden parents are advised to use a pillow to avoid plagiocephaly, but I& #039;m sure over in the UK we& #039;re advised NOT to use one til at least a year. So many doctors say that flat head will go away on its own, but I& #039;d like to avoid it if at all possible. Has anyone used a pillow like this? Or have any advice? |

Stop being paranoid!! I am a mum of three with our fourth on the way. We have never used any of these pillows or over done things like 'bumbo ' (Never heard of it actually) or even tummy time. Two of our kids (they are four and two now and the other is one) but my eldest and my middle son, they hated tummy time, and rarely ever went on their tummies. Trust me as far as flat head syndrome goes they really need to be on their backs flat on the floor twenty four seven. And the doctors are right... a friend of ours her and her husband are foster carers and they became temporary carers to a 7 month old and that little girl, she had a serious problem of flat head syndrome and it was very noticeable to everyone. But after three or four months in the care of our friends you could hardly tell (of course she was getting well looked after and treated with love and care which helped instead of the poor life she 'd had before). After several more months you 'd never have known!! Try not to worry so much. love your baby, spend time playing and singing and having lap games and cuddles and you 'll be just fine!! I am sure you 're doing a great job. |

Yes I used one. My son got flat head on one side because I had been butting him to sleep on his back and he would always turn his head to one side and never the other. It has made his head slightly off balance if you look at it from the top. I got the goi goi pillow and because I didn 't want him to smother himslef I put it underneath his bedsheet so it couldn 't go over his head. I have to say it hasn 't got any worse but I 'm not sure its got much better either. He was 4 months when I started using it and he 's nearly 8 months now. Flat head might go away in some babies by ityself but certainly not all, I know 4 and 5 years olds that still have it. The doctors play it down as purely cosmetic but I don 't think thats fair, they wouldn 't want it would they.... All the best whatever you decide X |

Of all the chldren in my family (including myself) none of us had flat head and none of us had any pillows or other devices to prevent it. There is really no need for it! |
