Question: Do i need baby pillows?
(Posted by: Stuart C on 2010-02-20 04:52:00)
We are about to have our first baby. He/ She will sleep in a crin then a cot. It just occured to me the other day that we do not have any pillows and I cant remember seeing any. Do new babies sleep on pillows or just on the mattress of their crib/ cot/ moses basket? |

They don 't use pillows, and it is really not good to put pillows or stuffed animals in with newborns, they don 't need anything that can get over their mouths and suffocate them...when you cover them with their blankets its good to tuck the edges of the blankets under the side of the mattress, so they can 't pull them up over their face when they sleep |

Pillows are extremely dangerous for newborns and actually they don 't need them. Pillows and loose blankets can cause SIDS. Get one only when your child is 2-3 yr old. |

No pillows, they are a suffication risk. It is recomended that nothing be in the bed with baby- blankets, toys, etc. There are "Sleep sacks " that act as a blanket that can 't be kicked off and get over baby 's face. Swaddling is also good the first few months. |

No. Its not recommended that you use a pillow for baby. it is considered to be a contributing factor in s.i.d.s.. just a mattress will do fine. make sure it is firm, and fits snug in the cot/ crib with not gaps. Congrats on your new family :) |

Pillows are not a good idea as they pose to be a suffocation risk. it is a good idea to keep your cot or crib free of anything but your baby and its swaddle blankets. GOOD LUCK!!! |

NO pillows for babies AT ALL!!! They are a major SIDS problem with babies smothering themselves. A young baby cannot turn his or her head and will suffocate themselves. Also NO COT/ CRIB Bumpers (the soft padding that goes around the sides of the cot) as this also becomes a smothering hazard and the ties can also come undone. NO Heavy quilts or blankets or any toys or teddies of any kind. sidsandkids.org/ safe_sleeping.html Once a baby becomes at least 12mths+ you can introduce a flat junior sized pillow but it is not necessary. The longer you can leave it the better. My 19month old son still does not have a pillow. We tried one for ages but he would just push it aside and sleep on the mattress. It is much better for his spine to not have one anyway. |

A pillow shouldnt be used until a baby is atleast a year old due to them suffocating themselves! pillows for babies are linked to cot death so dont use them! mum to 3 yr old, 2 yr old & 12 week old! |

Babies under 12 months should never be offered a pillow, due to the fact they increase the risk of suffocation. Babies can be palced flat in the cot/ crib, or the head of the mattress can be slightly raised by putting a folded blanket underneath it, but never give a baby a pillow. |

Pillow in the crib are good for decoration and for killing the baby. They are a SIDS risk and should not be used until the child is 1 year of age. |
