Do new walkers need baby shoes?

Question: Do new walkers need baby shoes?

(Posted by: Courage on 2009-10-03 00:01:42)

I got a couple of thumbsdowns for saying that my daughter never had & #039;cruising& #039; shoes and that I kept her in socks or barefooted until she was walking, and then soft soled shoes outside or in stores until she was quite a bit older. Do babies need baby shoes? Why? I was under the impression that it& #039;s best to let their feet grow unencumbered. Libby: Can you give a reference as to why they need shoes? Every report I& #039;ve found online has said that they need a soft- soled shoe for protection in walking outside once they start walking (hard soled being used only when they are very very good at walking), but should be left as barefoot as possible until 2 for the strengthening of the ankle, proper development of the arch, and strengthening of the toes, for all around better walking skills. If you have a reference that says otherwise, I want to see it. That& #039;s what I& #039;m asking for.

I 'm with you. My daughter is just over 9 months, and has never worn shoes. I 'm now looking for some soft-soled shoes to use when we go to the park, so I don 't get some many dirty looks! (Her bare feet enable her to climb up the slides, lol.) That 's the only reason I want them, since she 's really close to walking, and we like to go to the park with her older brother. At home, I wouldn 't put them on her, she 's going to walk much earlier than her brother did (I didn 't yet know the wonders of soft-soled shoes, and his grandparents kept buying him sneakers with big hard soles.) Maybe you could answer my question (it 's about where to find such shoes.) answers.yahoo.com/ question/ index;_ylt= AkBzcTO_7o5Nfd_GWqYooD3sy6IX;_ylv= 3?qid= 20091002233348AAbJHOp

I dont think they need shoes unless they are walking out in a public place.. then u mite want to put shoes on them because u never know what they mite step on. my daughter only wears socks at the moment.

Ive had 3 children ages 4, 3, 2. And everytime i would even attemt to put shoes on them they hated them or they would lose them or kick them off. They cant even walk in them.No babies dont need shoes when they are barely learning to walk.Their are some socks that i bought my daughter that looked like ballet shoes but they were socks. Also skid resistant socks are good too.But dont fret it kids dont need shoes till there actually walking

I didn 't put shoes on my daughter until she was about 8 1/ 2 and kept wanting to walk holding hands while we were out. she only wore shoes while we were out, never at home. she began walking at 10 months and i bought her some puma soft soled shoes and they have worked great. they are very flexible and cute!

Shoes are crucial when your child is beginning to stand alone or even 'cruise ' it helps with the development of their feet but most importantly helps with their development they will be walking sooner and with much better leg and body posture if they are wearing to shoes to no shoes... it is very important what shoes you get your child also, shoes with very soft soles are no good! no good at all.. the amount of children i see with no shoes at that crucial age is awful

I agree. i don 't think they would need shoes unless tehy are outside and their feet might get cut on something. People just thumbs down stuff they don 't agree with. it 's annoying.

IN "WHAT TO EXPECT TODDLER " THEY SAY IT IS ACTUALLY BETTER IF THE CHILD LEARNS TO WALK BAREFOOTED! BECAUSE IT GIVES THE CHILD 'S FEET FLEX ABILITY AND BABY SHOES ARE SO FRE AKIN HARD TO PUT ON AND THEY JUST SEEM SO UNCOMFORTABLE FOR A BABY (AND THEY CANT TELL YOU HOW THEY FEEL) SO VITO THE BABY SHOES!!!
