Baby socks scarring...?

Question: Baby socks scarring...?

(Posted by: RearFace@18mo. on 2008-02-25 18:38:42)

If baby socks can lead to scarring, what should I use? My son is 10 months. He doesn& #039;t sleep with them, but for outside he has them with slippers (it is below 20 out) and inside he has socks on during the day. What do you guys do? http:/ / answers.yahoo.com/ question/ index;_ylt=AoQBgIkgo70nkodMSXeiOGfty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080224092757AAiQT3e& amp;show=7#profile- info- jpQ1H07saa here is where I read it, the best answer There is nothing wrong with the socks my son uses, but I am saying if socks scar, what do we use then? I don& #039;t have any problem with socks or being too tight. My son& #039;s socks are all fine, but I just had read this that is all.

Hi tory. This is bothering me too. I 'm glad you asked. I don 't know if there are alternatives to baby socks!! Mystic_Eye, where are you on this one? : )

Scarring?? Never heard of this. They may be to tight and leave a red mark , but that will go away quickly.

What?! Whoever told you this is full of bologna! Millions of kids wear socks daily, and never have scars. Just make sure they are the proper size, not too tight. They will cut off circulation or leave marks if too tight, but the marks go away with time - kind of like the keyboard imprint on your forehead after falling asleep at the computer.

I 've never heard of socks scarring a baby. Just make sure they aren 't too tight.

Some socks have tighter elastic tops than others. Avoid socks that leave a tight band around your baby 's leg. Folding over the top of the sock can help, as can moving the sock regularly so that the elastic is not always on the same part of the leg.

I think this is a question for your child 's doctor

Where did you hear that? Socks don 't scar. If you mean they leave marks when you take them off that is due to the elastic in them to keep them up. Buy a bigger size if you are really worried.

The simple solution is to avoid putting your baby in socks that are too tight. The "scarring " has only been noticed in a very small number of babies (about 10) who wore too-tight socks with elastic bands at the top. It was unscientific, and based on the observations of two doctors. There was no follow-up to see if the marks were permanent, or to tell if the babies continued to wear socks that were too tight. Get the baby socks that fit him, and you won 't have to worry about it.

I have 3 children and all have worn baby socks. And none have scaring. I have never heard of baby socks scaring a little one. Which doesnt mean it isnt impossible i guess. But i would ask your physician about it.

I 've never heard of such a thing either. I had heard not to let them sleep in socks because of possible choking hazards. What i do is keep my little on in sleepers with feet. I can 't get a pair of socks to stay on him anyway, or keep my washer from eating every other one either.

Maybe socks with barbed wire in them vs elastic?! I 've never heard of this!

Bull pucky, people are looking for danger where there is none as usual, theres enough danger out there anymore that we dont need to go looking for it on our socks jeez. everyone i know has worn sock our entire lives and no one has any scars from it. i put socks on my son all the time his little feet are never bare, they get cold.of course at night he sleeps in a sleeper but still, hes in socks all day long. dont believe half of what you read on here, before you jump to ANY conclusions check stuff out because theres some downright nuts on here.

I found this article about the study that was done. To quote them, "The reports warn that wearing a pair of socks just once can cause ‘sock-line bands’ which are raised red marks around the leg or ankle and this could lead to permanent scarring. " Okay, so first of all wearing socks CAN cause a red mark, not does. Second, this red line COULD lead to scarring. Not very conclusive. Honestly I wouldn 't worry about it. Put your baby in socks and keep his feet warm. You could be cautious and watch for signs of his socks irritating his ankles, but really I don 't imagine this happens to many babies. Good luck with what ever you decide.
