Question: Should i use a baby toilet or a regular toilet for trainig?
(Posted by: Shelia L on 2009-03-10 15:01:49)
My son is 21 months and I want to start potty training. should I use a speical little toddler toilet or just let him us the big boy potty? I am hearing mixed things. I feel like it would be easier for him to use a little potty. I bought one if those one& #039;s that plays music if he actually pees, was this a wise choice? |

I bought a similar one with my youngest I bought a small potty that plays music when she pees it works plus when they are this small they get afraid of the sound it makes when it hits water and also fear falling into the potty and it also helps with the pooping part because they can push on the floor to help get it out once he is fully trained and can sit on the potty they make small cushioned seats to go onto the toilet to make sure they don 't fall in.Good luck and happy potty training. |

I used a little one. I put it in front of the T.V. at the beginning and he didn 't even realize he was going and after 2 weeks he was fully potty trained and started using the big toilet. |

I tried a little potty chair for my daughter and she HATED it. She never wanted to sit on it. I went out and got her the toddler seat for the big potty and she was potty trained in a few weeks. By the way I used a chair that made noise when my daughter peed and all she did was stick her hand in there to make it go off and make noise! LOL |

I had a little one & she never would use it. she was a bit stubborn though. it really just depends on the child. she did like the big potty just because everyone in the house was using it to. just take him with you everytime you go & sit him on the little potty. he may love it especially when it sings to him. |

A potty chair is more convienient as you can take it with you when you 're going to Grandma and Grandpa 's or move it around the house if your child is too stubborn to stop what they 're doing to get to the bathroom. Some children, also, freak out at the big potty, even with a toddler ring to put on it, thinking that they 'll fall in. Do whatever your child is comfortable with. I, personally, started with the toddler ring in hopes that I wouldnt ' have to clean out a little potty. My daughter didn 't take to "being way up high ", so I had to buy a potty chair. Good Luck! |

Use the big one. It 's not like he will get flush down the toilet. Come on now! |

I used the little potty that goes onto the big one. Like a ring. I figured it was silly to train her on the little potty and then on the big one too, because to children the big potty is scary, so I just went for the big one in the beginning. Again I think its all the parents opinion. We are all going to have different views. Do what you feel is right. |

Some children prefer the little potty and some prefer the big potty if he prefers the big potty just get the little seat that goes on top so he wont fall in good luck with the potty training |

Hi, it 's going to be up to your little guy... Have you tried to put him on the toilet yet? If not try this, best to try first thing in the morning and remember to make a huge deal when he goes potty for the first time. As far as the potty chair goes it going to depend on what type of personality he has... ex. my oldest used the potty chair ( plays music, gave reward stickers), my youngest played with the potty chair like a toy making the music go off all day long, and used it as a t.v chair! either way you will have to train him to go potty on the toilet! Best of luck |

I would go with regular toilet. I did it and it worked for me. They need to learn where they`ll pee and poo for the rest of their lives, rather then, first this little one, then the big one...it`ll be like training twice. |

There 's nothing wrong with little potties. However, i 'd just use the regular one. It 's not really easier. I mean, put a step stool in front of the bigger one just for him and you eliminate the need to dump out and clean the kiddie potty. In the rare case, he may become highly attached to the kiddie potty and refuse to use the big one without some reinforcement; however, i haven 't seen that to be too much of a problem. By the way, even though YOU may want to start potty training, it doesn 't mean he 's ready for it. If he 's not, you 're wasting your time and may be "potty training " this time next year, having made little progress, if any. Wait until he 's shown interest AND can stay dry for at least 2 hours. If he can 't do BOTH, he 's not ready. |
