How do you feel about baby walkers?

Question: How do you feel about baby walkers?

I read a book saying walkers slow the development of a child, do you think that is true? My 6m old will not roll over at all, ive tried everything, but she is starting to sit on her own. She LOOVES the walker, so could that be a factor in her not turning over and not yet sitting by herself?

I love my walker! My son loves it. He has one that has the skids on the bottom and it makes it difficult to use on carpet, he has now learned that if he stands up and takes all the weight off the walker he can walk on the carpet. So IMO he has alot of strength and is developing great!

I don 't think they slow development. a baby will roll, crawl, sit up and walk when they are ready to. my son didn 't roll over until he was almost 8 months old. we never used a walker. he also sat up unassisted at 5 months and we never used any of those bumbo seats. he started crawling at almost 10 months, and started really walking around at 14 months (took his first step at 13 months. took a month to get him really going) i do however htink walkers are completely unnecessary. we have one, but have never let our son walk around in it.

I think you 're worrying too much. 6 months is not way late for a baby not to be rolling over. It 's really true that every baby does develop on his or her own. However, I would not get a walker for my baby. They are not recommended, and Consumer Reports and others are actually calling for a ban on them. They 're dangerous, and they don 't help a baby learn to walk. And some do say that they actually do slow the development. Just keep doing lots of floor time with her, and she 'll surprise you one day and roll right over. Then you 'll have your hands full!

She will roll over when she 's ready. Walkers are okey, in moderation. Too much time in it can be bad. You want her to build strength without it, but she likes it because she has a supportive view of the world. Just follow your Motherly instinct!

No not at all, I think too much of a good thing could be bad for them. If you keep them in there all day of course that will be bad but a few mins here and there through the day isn 't something bad. My baby started to use one since 5 months and at around 6 actually got into moving around in it. At 7 started to show signs of crawling and by 8 1/ 2 and only two weeks of crawling perfectly he has moved on to pulling him self and walking around furniture. Every baby develops differently, for example a lot of babies sit up before they start to crawl well mine he started to crawl and move around and now he 's starting to sit him self up a lone. I also read an article on how babies now days have slowed down their milestones they are saying it 's has to do with doctors recommending the baby to sleep on the backs instead of their stomach.
