Baby walker? good or bad ?

Question: Baby walker? good or bad ?

(Posted by: Yarra on 2009-02-26 22:44:31)

Two child health nurses told me not to invest on a baby walker. I got one at home , one I received as a gift. Just wondering if I shouldn& #039;t be using it? thanks for sharing your ideas, experience.

Do not use baby walker. They may be dangerous, I can 't comment on this one, but the main reason is that they make babies walk earlier and it 's not good for the development of their feet and overall balance training. If your foal is to make them learn earlier - maybe it will work. But if you want them to walk better - do not push them into it when their muscles are not ready yet. When they are ready - they won 't need a walker. The walker only compensates for what they have still to learn and practise on their own.

Both my sons love the walker. i have heard it does not position the baby right for walking and can even post pone walking longer than normal. well my 1st son stood up and walked off at 9 months. and my 2nd son is almost 5 months now. he gets in that thing and walks all over the kitchen and laughs so hard about it. i would suggest you get one. i think they are well worth it.

I have 2 children myself one is a year and the other one is six months a baby walker is perfectly fine and safe. Plus it will help them walk fast and make there legs stronger plus babys have a blast in those things.

I love the concept, but they can be dangerous. Some places carry ones that stay in place and are super nice. Check it out.netkidswear.com/ supaccenfrom.html

Be careful with it. Do not use it as a baby sitter or to train your child. MAKE SURE THAT IT IS NEVER NEAR STAIRS, NOR THAT YOUR BABY CAN GET OUT OF THE HOUSE WITHOUT YOUR BEING THERE! Wait...you are talking about the jumpy seaty thing with wheels, right? Cause I wasn 't aware that the push kind was a problem. Same cautions, though...gates, and doors. Very important that you use them for this time, while he/ she is learning to walk.

Since you have it you can use it, but use it in moderation. Babies should be able to roam free without the constrictions of contraptions. This way babies can learn their limits and develop their bodies all on their own, the way nature intended.. But like I said since you have it there is nothing wrong with using it once in a while.. I am sure you need your breaks and it does entertain the baby.... Good luck!

As long as you keep your eyes on you baby any there are no hazards in your baby 's way then use a baby walker. I think they are great.

My daughter has been able to bear all of her weight on her legs since less than two months old, only needing help to balance. She 's using a walker now at five months (she 's not tall enough, so we put a pillow under her feet and use it as more of a "stander "). It saves us from having to hold her up to balance her, since she loves to be standing all the time. You can get one of those door-hanging bouncers, but she gets bored of hers and just sucks on it. In the couple of weeks we have been letting her use the walker, she has had so much fun with the activity tray and just standing in general. We have a Chicco (amazon.com/ Chicco-DJ-Baby-Walker-Safari/ dp/ B000MAIUQY/ ref= sr_1_1?ie= UTF8 &s= baby-products &qid= 1235717677 &sr= 8-1) but a different color than in the link. She 's crazy about it. If your child seems really interested in standing all the time, I would definitely recommend it. However, I wouldn 't use it until they are pretty strong at bearing all their weight and can hold their back and head completely straight on their own for long period of time without assistance. Another option is the kind which allows them to stand, but not walk. If you have stairs or other places in your home where a walker might easily tip over, I would recommend one of these instead (amazon.com/ Graco-Einstein-Discover-Activity-Center/ dp/ B000WJPCFW/ ref= sr_1_1?ie= UTF8 &s= baby-products &qid= 1235717841 &sr= 1-1). Here 's some pics of my five-month-old enjoying her walker today. img23.imageshack.us/ my.php?image= ayawalker022609fs9.jpg img8.imageshack.us/ my.php?image= ayawalker2022609zb6.jpg

If you have one and didn 't pay for it go ahead and use it! I 've yet to see a conclusive study showing that they are bad for development, most of the concerns are from a safety perspective and mainly to do with the child falling down stairs and getting into areas where you really do not want them (like out onto the road). as long as you supervise usage and barricade hazards like stairs and doors to the outside it should be fine

My dd loves hers and we keep it on the carpet so she can 't go fast, and she 's in the den which is on the lowest level of the house.....

My son has one of those things that you sit on and you can roll but it has a baby walker on the back, he loves pushing it around, and has never gotten hurt. I dont see a problem with it, just use it supervised once your child can take supported steps.
