What are your views on baby walkers?

Question: What are your views on baby walkers?

(Posted by: sun_smile_yellow on 2009-08-19 13:18:17)

My little man is 4 months old and I& #039;m starting to think about new things to buy for him. I either want a baby walker or an activity station where babies sit in the middle and the seat twists round but they cant walk anywhere. I& #039;ve heard some people say baby walkers are not good for them and some people say they are ok! Whats your view?

We used a baby walker and our daughter was walking at 7 1/ 2 months so the conclusion that babies that go in baby walkers are late walker is a load of rubbish as it builds up the muscles for walking!! its the old designs that were said to be bad for the hips but new designs have sorted that! i was put in a baby walker when i was young it was the done thing and it never did me any harm. I wish you the best of luck

I 've heard some bad things about walkers (baby 's flying out of them, broken legs and apparently it may take longer for them to walk) My LO is 4 months old too, her dad just bought her an excersaucer which is the same thing as an activity station but they can 't walk anywhere. So in my opinion just from what I heard I 'm skipping on a walker for Naya

My kids liked their walker and I don 't really see the problem as long as you 're safe about it. You 've got to be super careful about steps! Babies can get seriously hurt, but we don 't have a basement so no problems here. They have tons of fun because they can walk all over, my 18 week old has learned to push himself forward in his! They also have trays for toys if they get bored. I think they 're awesome. I don 't use it overly much as I 've heard it can hinder walking. My oldest only used it an hour a day and was walking by 10 months!

Go for it, my nephews loved his, he would get mad if we took him out of it too soon, lol. Just make sure you keep it very clean. It was the saucer though. We always had carpet and walkers wouldn 't work with them. But I do see now why they can be dangerous about going down stairs and such. I would go for the saucer where they can 't walk at all, they like the saucers that they can jump in. they are so when they figure out how to jump, they go over board with it and lose a bunch of weight as well.

I would get an exersaucer ( activity station ) because most pediatricians are against walkers. They are banned in Canada and parts of Europe. And currently, it is going through legislation to be banned in the U.S. The risks of walkers range from head injuries to delayed milestones of crawling and walking. I have a 9 month old and am constantly tempted to try one. But with all the warnings I receive about them, I would KICK myself if something happened to her from buying one.

Well i had both for my first two kids. i got the activity thing and then when Joe was born we got the walker and both were great. the walker worried me somethies tho incase if he went by the stairs my husband but little gate sup and it was fine. so both are great

Walkers are dangerous (babies can be injured by tumbling downstairs, tipping over on the carpet edge, or reaching things they might otherwise be unable to get to.) Walkers are unnecessary, and may actually delay walking. Walkers are expensive, and a waste of money. If you want to buy something like this, get a stationary playseat.

I would just get an exosauser, both my daughters loved them, and they aren 't as dangerous as walkers.

Think they are great, just a pity they don 't make an adult size one for me when i come out the pub on a friday night.

My children have all loved their baby walkers, i think there a great idea. Ive heard of people saying bad things about them but they must be all the daft lot that put their babies in them upstairs for them to fall down, or dont click it in the height position properly so it collapses - these are all avoidable things for people with common sense. I had one of those play stations, my boys loved it for a while but soon got bored, atleast with a walker while they still cant go anywhere they can play with the toys on it and then progress onto getting about when their ready. I definately give walkers the thumbs up. Have fun! :) Lacey X

I hate them. I never bought one for my son. I believe they are making babies lazy, and they don 't encourage balancing at all therefore walking will take longer to learn. If you want a similar thing to for your baby why not try the baby door bouncer, they make legs stronger and are great fun too :) cgi.ebay.co.uk/ DISNEY-TIGGER-BABY-DOOR-BOUNCER-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ160307652212QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Toys_Games_Toys_CA?hash= item255314a674 &_trksid= p3286.c0.m14

I do not buy walkers. They are not safe and many babies have been hurt. We always had a jumperoo thing that also had toys so similar to a activity station but they can jump up and down work those legs and also spin all the way around!

Well they don 't help build up muscles for walking, as their legs are in a completely different position but as long as you don 't do anything stupid with them, like leave them upstairs in a walker, or expect your child to be in one all day they 're quite useful I found both of mine liked them because they were upright - they seem to go through a stage were they like to be up, but can 't quite manage standing by themselves yet

People overreact so much. Both me and my two sisters have them when they were 'dangerous ' and nothing happened. They 've been made safe so much now, I think it 's a really good idea actually. It would encourage LO to get walking!
