Question: Baby walker yes or no ?
(Posted by: bella on 2010-06-19 17:44:19)
I purchased baby walkers for my twin boys after doing so i have come across alot of controversy and am starting to regret it, so once again i am asking real mothers did you or didn& #039;t you use them. If so how long each day would you or do you allow your baby to spend in it. My twins love them and are always and i mean always supervised when using them. |

Ok some of these answers are making me a little mad my daughter had a walker and bouncer kinda of toy looked like a walker but stayed still not one of those jumpy joey things but anyways she didn 't really like her walker except that Cinderella 's castle sang to her when she hit it she loved the bouncer though she was a preemie so a little on the short side for a few mos so her feet didn 't reach the platform even on the highest setting so we would put a pillow underneath her feet so she wasn 't just hanging in there but I contribute that to helping with her leg strength(she started walking at 7mos) I ALWAYS watched her and she had a blast chewing on her chair and pulling at all the toys. There where times where she would get really excited and jump around but I was never worried it would FALL OVER she would bump her mouth sometimes when she got really excited while biting the rim but she is almost 14mos now and still bumps her mouth while chewing on things (non of her bumps ever needed ER assistance and had they I wouldn 't care how much the ER visit was I wasn 't going to take SAFE FUN away from my daughter in fear she MIGHT get hurt or I MIGHT have to pay a hospital ) she spent lots of time in her bouncer but because she loved it we would bring in the kitchen while we did dishes or to the laundry room while we changed loads. so that we could keep an eye on her while she was safe AND having fun. When she really started moving around the house and she was tall enough to drop the bottom all the way down she really didn 't have that much need for it anymore, now that her baby brother is a few mos old I pulled it out again to see how he would enjoy it,he still really doesn 't get the point, but Lilly remembered it right away and ran over pushing the colors to make sounds and played with the mirror so if your boys like it and they are having fun where you can keep on eye on them let them of course map out the areas where they are able to wheel to get down to their level and make sure table corners can 't knock them in the face or that now they have something supporting them then can reach up and grab at something they shouldn 't be they need to have time to build up leg strength and unless your able to give them both significant amount of time pushing their legs then I think the walkers are a great idea for your home |

I used one with our first and I plan on using one again. As long as it is supervised, I don 't see any problem. Obviously I wouldn 't let her go by stairs or jump around in it. She has a blast in one and it strengthened her legs. I am in. |

We used it with all 3 of our kids. They all walked early & have no problems. They are now normal kids at ages 14, 10 & 8. My nieces and nephews use them too. They are all normal as can be. The ones who are babies will use them too I 'm sure. The key is to make sure not to use them near stairs. Pretty much common sense. We kept the walkers on the main floor. At my inlaws we had a door to shut to keep the kids away from the stairs. My son who is now 8 loved the walker more than the girls. It was so funny to see him at just 5-6mts old RUNNING in the walker to meet his daddy at the door. He loved it that he could keep up with his sisters. He never walked in the walker but ran. He also liked crashing into thinks esp. mommy 's heels which hurt. ; ) I see no problem with walkers. |

I had one as a baby, and my 8mo daughter uses one but rarely!! she likes it, but don 't want her to rely on it all the time, but the wheels go slow and sturdy so that 's ok. I supervise her at all times, and our house is baby proof so that 's ok. I 've heard it inhibits their walking and that it 's banned in Canada (i 'm in Australia) obviously they are illegal there for a reason, so it puts me off using it all the time! 50/ 50, but i 'd say yes, as long as you don 't take your eyes off your babies! |

Big mistake. You might watch them, but most accidents that result in serious injury to the baby HAS adult supervision. Kids like them, but is the ER visit worth it? I don 't know about you, but I have a $2000 deductible that would certainly crunch our budget. What I don 't get is why these walkers are not already banned in the US? One kid dies from a toy and they ban it, but THOUSANDS of children are injured annually, and they continue to allow this dangerous children 's product to be sold. A bit non sequitor, don 't you think? |

I would not recommend a walker. Children walk when they are ready for a reason. Putting them in a walker allows them to do something they are not really ready to do. It also strengthens the wrong muscles in their legs. I did not use a walker with my first and am not going to with my second. As a side note, I teach special ed and all the occupational therapists and physical therapists do not recommend them for typically developing babies. |

As long as it meets the safety requirements and they are being supervised i dont see a problem with it. Its something that you will ultimately decided on whats best for your babes. My son is 5months and i just purchased his Baby Einstein Musical Jumper.. and hes likes it so far. It gives him a little bit of independent creative time, that i supervise of course. I don 't think that there is anything wrong with it. As for how much time.. As long as your tinys are enjoying themselves and having a good time. Go with what you think is right. ~Sharon |

I have had two babies use the walker I 've got with no problems. It gives them a chance to go where they wanna go without being toted around. They cant talk, they cant crawl, but they can really roll out in the walker and check out the room! Its fun! The only reason I would not use a walker is if I had stairs without a door because baby gates i would NOT trust for that sort of thing. I dont think it hurts their legs at all. When my baby gets tired of walkin in the walker but still is happy playin toys on the tray or lookin around he just sits his weight in it and its no different than sitting anywhere else. |

We did not use one, reason being is that the United States is the only nation that has not banned walkers! Not only can they be a safety hazard, but I 've also heard that spending too much time in them can cause bow-legs in your child. And it 's not only from the walkers... jumperoos, Baby Bjornes...anything that has a seat that makes their legs spread apart. If you do decide to get one, I 've heard not to let them spend anymore than 20 min. a day in them. |
