Question: Can i travel in a plane with my baby wrapped in a sling/wrap/baby carry?
(Posted by: pam_chick1 on 2008-03-28 11:39:39)
I& #039;m taking a vacation with my 7 moth old and i was wondering if is ok for me to take her in a mei tai or a ring sling. I heard somewhere that u CAN& #039;T, but I dont understand why? I would Think that is safer if the baby is our arms wraped around instead that just in my arms all lose. In case something happens he will end up flying around. also how much more money i would have to pay if i want to take the baby car sit with my luggage? I dont want to take the car sit in the plane because I would have to pay for another sit. I just wanted to take it with me for when I arive to my destination. |

Yes! I just did it last week. I had to take her out of the sling to go through security but it was the greatest thing once we were on the plane. She slept the whole time and I even got up and used the restroom with her in the sling and she didn 't make a peep. |

I think it all depends on the airlines. When I flew with my son during the take off and landing I had to hold him up in a burp position because that is the safest position for a baby. I also brought my car seat and stroller right up to the airplane door and then took my son out. They were waiting for me when I exited the plane. But again, it depends on the airline. Soem airlines make you check you stroller and car seat. |

Yes, bring your sling. You won 't have any issues using it, you 'll just need to buckle your seat belt underneath it. No big deal. As for you baby seat, there is not a charge for checking it. It 's a freebie. |

When I flew with with my oldest daughter, she was 15 months and the airline required her to be in a carseat. It was hell carrying her and that seat around, but they did let us board first. |

The Mei Tai is really great for traveling... (If you like mei tai 's you should ckeck out this website that I just bought one from. Ahh i looovvee it. sunshinebabyslings.com ... they are reversable, have a zipper headrest, hoodie inside the headrest, side purse, and the straps are really wide and supportive. It 's the nicest one I have. ) The stweardess did ask me to take her out of it though, just during take off. It does make much more sense to have the baby inside and secure right? I don 't understand why not either. |

I fly w/ a 2yr old and a 4 month old and when you purchase your tickets if the kid is under 2 then it 's free for them and they can sit on your lap the whole time. With my son last month on the smaller plane I got to bring the carseat to the plane but they checked it in underneath the plane and then when I got off the plane they had it waiting for me. Now some planes don 't get full and they can sit you where you have an extra seat to put your baby in..in the carseat. They do make you hold the baby during take off and landing but if you have the carseat you can place them in there during the flight. I 'm flying in a few weeks and I 'm putting my 4 month old in a front baby carrier so I can control my daughter better. You can also bring a stroller and they can check that under the plane too! Good Luck! |

There is a baby carrier (like a mei tei almost) that is FAA approved for use on airlines. But you 'd have to check with the airline, though I don 't see why they think its their business if its ok to have baby loose. Personally I don 't see why its ok to not have a seat for baby. If the cabin looses pressure -then what? Its only one mask per seat. |
