Do you wear a baby wrap or sling, carrier?

Question: Do you wear a baby wrap or sling, carrier?

And if so which one do you use? How often do you use it? What size are you? Does the size of the momma affect how comfortable the wrap or sling is? I do plan to breastfeed.

I have a modified Mei Tei/ Asian Baby carrier (its the one my mom carried me around in they don 't make 'em like that anymore). And I like it, I 've worn some of the "modern " (*lol* based on thousand year old design) ones and they are even more comfy. I can 't use a sling because I have neck problems. However I hear you can breastfeed in a sling. I have used a "back pack " style carrier. They are great for bigger kids *IF* you can get one that fits properly. (Its worth the extra to get a good one that fits properly). I keep wanting a wrap and never getting around to it. Of all the carriers a wraps is supposed to be the best. It can be the hardest to use but it replaces all the others. You can carry baby on your front face in, face out, or relined across you. You can do a hip carry, and it can do a back carry. Because it keeps baby closer than a mei tei it should be more comfortable. I know the mei tei is more comfortable than the snuggli because the baby is closer. The closer the baby the less pressure points you will have and the less heavy the baby will feel -its hard to explain but it makes a huge difference. Try wearing a heavy back pack too loose and then snug (but not too tight) and you will see. Check out mamatoto.org for videos, sew and no-sew patterns.

I 've seen many women use a sling. For me, I got too hot wearing it.

I use a sling and I love mine. I have a Peanut shell in black fleece in size Medium and a Hotsling in a size 4. Yes the size of mommy matters if it is a non-adjustable one.

I had a sling that my baby used twice and I just bought a carrier called a Snugli that we have used twice and I 'm thinking about trying another type of carrier because after ten minutes of my baby being in it my shoulders are killing me. I am 5 '2 " and my 7 month old son is 18 pounds, so I need to look for one that will distribute his weight on more that just my shoulders.

I used a carrier. My kids are so hot natured that they 'd sweat themselves silly in a sling, especially my boy. We always used our carrier the most and hardly took the stroller out. Even at a year old, we 'd get a big backpack carrier and use that. Its great excersice, the toddler LOVEs getting a view from up high, less stroller drama, and you know exactly where the hands are (in your hair). I don 't think size matters, but my husband and I did have different adjustments for the carrier. If he wore it, he 'd make the straps longer. If I wore it, I 'd shorten it to bring the baby up higher on my body.

My hubby used a carrier with our last one. I never got a chance, dad was not taught to share..lol.. He loved it. But I hear if you nurse a sling is great. they have alot of benefits if nursing, wish I had known that sooner. It may just be which makes you more comfortable.

I have a hotsling in a size Large. Although it fits, I just don 't like it. It is kind of weird and no matter how I use it, my son still ends up leaning when I try the hip carry. I also have an Evenflo Snugli which I can only wear for like 20 minutes before my neck and back are killing me. I recommend spending good money on a baby carrier if you think you 'll use it a lot because you really do get what you pay for!

I love the moby wrap! It goes over both shoulders to prevent shoulder and back strain! Check them out at mobywrap.com and theslingstation.com. My first sling went over only one shoulder and I wound up in physical therapy b/ c we used it all the time. lol. Good luck! Edit to add: I 'm a size 6, about 5 '3 " and the moby wrap is designed to fit women up to size 14 (front) and 24 (back). I also used my sling to breastfeed, even did it in the grocery store while we shopped. lol. Great invention.

I use a wrap that I made myself (mamatoto.org) and also 2 pouches. I use them whenever I go out, although I also bring his stroller along just in case. If you 're petite like me with a big son, it can start to hurt your back a little back and pull on the shoulder if it 's one sided. But I always use it because I love it. It takes over an hour for the pain to set in. Knowing what I know now, I would have never purchased a wrap or sling. Making one is so easy and so cheap!
