(Posted by: soggy527 on 2008-05-11 12:46:17)
As it is very warm these day& #039;s and my bedroom where the baby sleeps it is 25 degrees... i am worried that she may be too hot i have just been wrapping her up in a sheet at nite. will this be enough for her as i know babies lose alot of heat... baby is 5 weeks old baby is in a vest and sleepsuit |

I was in a dilema last night too as it was 23 in my room! Baby boy is 12 weeks old and have been using sleeping pods or bags whatever you call them since he was about 9 weeks old. I believe it is better for the baby to be slightly cooler at night as apposed to too hot as this increases risk of cot death. Last night I had him in a short sleeved sleepsuit from next and his sleeping pod which is 2.5 tog I think. I felt him when I woke up during the night and he felt warm but not too hot. Today I have kept windows open in room and curtains shut in hope it will cool for later!! x |

Rule of thumb...one less item than you in the summer and one more item than you in winter. A vest and nappy if it is hot is fine. loose cotton sheet and don 't allow a draught on her (window open) because of the possible mosquito bites/ bugs etc. |

What is the temperature? 25degrees? Or 75. They baby is usually 10 degrees cooler than the mother. So if you are usuing a sheet, a sheet should be good for the child also. |

You can wrap her up in a sheet obviously the baby has night clothes on, the baby will keep body heat but do not have the cot near the window and have it open otherwise the baby could catch a chill. |

They say to give a baby one more layer than you...i put my daughter in a long sleeved vest and a thin sleeping bag in the summer... |

I would put a vest on her then just a thin blanket i think that babies will cry if they are too cold |

Youd be better to ring your health visitor-I know it may seem like something small but thats what theyre there for. Im a student nurse and did a placement with HVs they are brilliant even though some people may think different (I know I did before my placement) They have loads of knowledge and are all trained nurses/ midwives. These are definetely the best people to ask about stuff like this. |

I use a piece of T-Shirt fabric...100% cotton...I just bought a metre of it and trimmed a bit off and it is perfect for swaddling but not too hot...that and an all in one cotton vest..my rule is that if I feel warm then she will too...at around 3am I check her as the temp drops a lot then...I may add a flannlette sheet over her. |

Temp should be 18-21 try opening a window to control temp. try putting her in a vest rather than a sleep suit and also try a one tog baby sleeping bag. feel her chest (not head) for her temp, good luck p.s. we had the opposite our 7 month old was born in the winter and we panicked that he may be too cold! |

WOW! 25 degrees, are you sure. That 's like freezing. Buy your baby a 1 piece fleece sleeper, matter of fact, buy several. It is better for your baby to be too harm than not warm enough |

Mercy: WOW! 25 degrees, are you sure. That 's like freezing. Buy your baby a 1 piece fleece sleeper, matter of fact, buy several. It is better for your baby to be too harm than not warm enough **You couldnt be more wrong if you tried. The correct temperature for a baby 's room is 18 degrees. And babies that are too warm rather than too cool are more likely to encounter cot death. Jesus lady, if you 're going to guess, dont answer!! If your baby 's room really is 25 degrees then perhaps pop her in a vest and a 1 tog sleeping bag. |

My baby is 13 weeks old and my best buy by far was the grow bags, they are great. Soon as i started putting him in this he has been sleeping all night, it controls his temp and you dont have to worry about him kicking the blankets off in the night. I worry about him getting to hot also, my room is around 23/ 24 degrees and at the min he is in a 1.5 tog, but soon i am going to put him in a 1 tog as it is getting warmer. He also has on a sleep suit to keep his arms warm |
