Question: Will cutting back on coffee help weight loss?
(Posted by: Camellsa S on 2010-03-11 08:59:22)
I really love coffee, I drink a lot of it. I drink it black w/o sugar or cream. I am trying to loose some extra weight, I am just wondering if cutting back on caffeine will help this? I have heard really mixed results on this topic, so any information would be nice!! Thanks!! |

How Drinking Coffee Helps: * Coffee reduces the risk of type 2 Diabetes. * Coffee gives you more energy for a tougher workout that lasts longer, making it possible to burn more calories. * Coffee does not contribute to heart disease as we previously thought. * Caffeine speeds up your metabolism making it easier for us to burn more calories --- even while at rest. What To Watch Out For: * Avoid fancy drinks from places like Starbucks that are loaded with hidden ingredients and additional calories. Frappacinnos and Mocha Lattes are not going to help you lose weight. * Don 't add cream and sugar to your coffee. These only add extra calories and make you crave more sweets. * Don 't give into the donuts, muffins and other similar goodies when you stop to grab a cup of coffee. A donut can add another 200-300 calories (and who can eat just one?) and a muffin can range from 450-700 calories depending on the size and type. * Don 't try to cut out coffee and reduce calories all at once. Gradually reduce your intake to phase it out if that is your goal. Overall, coffee has been given a bad reputation and as long as you don 't fill it or pair it with sweets it is a healthy way to start your day and kick start your weight loss. |

Nooo. Especially since you don 't put anything in it. Coffee speeds up your metabolism. |

No, if you just drink black coffee there is virtually no calories or fat in it. The calories come from the cream and sugar in the coffee. Caffeine isn 't the healthiest thing for your overall health but won 't actually affect your weight at all. |

Yes, because coffee is fattening, even without the sugar and/ or cream. Cutting back on coffee is hard to do, but it would help. |

Justinlee basically said it all. Don 't drink the cappuccinos or the frappe 's or all those coffees with crazy amounts of sugar and fat. I have actually heard that drinking a cup of black coffee (with maybe a packet of splenda or sugar if you really want to add the calories) before a meal can help suppress you appetite. And that there are many health benefits to (black) coffee. I have asthma for instance and coffee helps lower my symptoms and I have less attacks. Hope this helped :) |
