Question: Wellbutrin and weight loss?
(Posted by: JC123 on 2010-03-13 12:33:23)
I have been depressed for a while now and have tried everything to get out of it. Before I went to the doctor for help i joined a gym and started lifting weights 4 and 5 days a week.I also quit smoking. I have been depressed in the past and exercise helped before. In a little over six weeks I have put on about 15 lbs of muscle and physically I feel much better. Unfortunately though it didn't help the depression much at all. So I went to the doctor and he prescribed me wellbutrin sr (bupropion). It's only been a couple days and I do feel a little better. I have more energy for sure. The only thing I am worried about though is the weight loss as a side effect. I have always been thin and honestly for the first time in my life I am making really good gains in the gym and don't want to lose all the progress I have made because of this drug. Is the weight loss side effect just due to giving people that are maybe a little overweight and lethargic, depressed more energy and therefore burn more calories, and lose weight? Or does it have some reaction in the body/brain that makes you burn muscle or whatever? |
